Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • prior experience in a bakery or food service environment helpful but not required
  • ability to stand for extended periods
  • physical ability to lift and carry bakery products and supplies
  • availability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • ability to follow food safety and hygiene regulations
  • ability to communicate clearly with customers and team members
  • age 18 or older as required by law
  • ability to obtain a food handlers permit once employed

Job Duties

  • Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
  • offer product samples to customers
  • inform customers of bakery specials
  • provide fresh products with correct portion sizes to prevent shrink
  • recommend bakery items to customers
  • use bakery equipment according to guidelines
  • prepare foods following food temperature logs and cooking/baking instructions
  • measure, prepare, and mix ingredients using kitchen utensils and equipment
  • adequately prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients and merchandise
  • check product quality to ensure freshness
  • review sell by dates and take appropriate action
  • properly use kitchen equipment such as stove, computerized scale, fryer, steamer, robot coupe
  • label, stock, and inventory department merchandise
  • report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to manager
  • understand store layout to locate products for customers
  • stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads
  • gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department
  • maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions
  • ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain logs
  • promote trust and respect among associates
  • create a welcoming environment for customers
  • adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines
  • reinforce safety programs and identify unsafe conditions
  • display a positive attitude
  • practice preventive maintenance on equipment and notify management of repairs
  • notify management of customer or employee accidents
  • report safety risks, illegal activities like theft or fraud
  • perform essential job functions with or without accommodation
