Job Description

Kroger is the nation's largest grocer, operating nearly 2,800 stores across 35 states under 28 different banners. Established over a century ago in Cincinnati, Kroger has evolved from a small grocery store into a leader in the retail food industry. Known for its commitment to community, diversity, and innovation, Kroger strives to create exceptional experiences for customers and associates alike. The company's core mission is To Feed the Human Spirit, reflecting a deep care for customers' wellbeing beyond just food. As a major employer in the retail industry, Kroger offers a wide range of roles, career pathways, and comprehensive benefits designed to support associates' personal and professional growth. The environment at Kroger is inclusive and welcoming, encouraging teamwork, respect, and development among all team members.

The role of a Bakery Clerk at Kroger is critical in providing outstanding customer experiences through exceptional service. This position involves more than just managing bakery items; the Bakery Clerk plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, and inviting environment within the bakery department that encourages customer loyalty and satisfaction. The Bakery Clerk assists the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals while upholding stringent quality assurance standards. Central to this role is the demonstration of Kroger's core values, including respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

In this position, the Bakery Clerk prepares bakery items per customer requests, ensuring the use of proper bakery equipment and techniques. Employees will be expected to offer samples to customers, inform them about bakery specials, and help customers discover new products, ensuring they receive fresh merchandise in appropriate quantities to reduce shrinkage. The clerk will handle various bakery equipment, such as refrigerators, freezers, ovens, fryers, and mixers, following strict food temperature logs and baking instructions to ensure product quality and safety.

The role requires knowledge of inventory management, including packaging, labeling, and stocking bakery ingredients and merchandise, and the ability to assess product freshness through quality checks and "sell by" date reviews. The clerk must also identify and report any ordering or shipping discrepancies to management and maintain department displays aligned with current, seasonal, and promotional advertisements. Maintaining proper temperatures in cases and coolers and adhering to all food safety regulations are essential responsibilities.

Moreover, the Bakery Clerk fosters a positive atmosphere by promoting trust, respect, and safety among team members and customers. They must practice preventive maintenance by inspecting bakery equipment regularly and reporting any needed repairs. Safety awareness extends to identifying and reporting risks, incidents, or illegal activities within the store. The position requires good communication and math skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.

Kroger offers Bakery Clerks comprehensive benefits including healthcare, dental, vision, prescription coverage, paid time off, associate discounts, tuition reimbursement up to $21,000 through an industry-leading continuing education program, and access to emotional and financial support resources. The company also provides flexible scheduling for both full-time and part-time roles, emphasizing work-life balance and career growth. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about food, customer service, learning, and growth within a supportive and industry-leading retail environment. Join Kroger and contribute to a workplace where your potential is unlimited and every day holds the promise of feeding the human spirit.
