Job Description
Kroger, known as America's largest grocer, has a rich history that began with a single small grocery store in Cincinnati over a century ago. Since then, it has grown exponentially, now operating nearly 2,800 stores across 35 states under 28 different brand names. Kroger is a household name that symbolizes quality, diversity, and community-oriented service. The company is deeply committed to fostering a culture where respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety are core values that guide every aspect of operations. Kroger brings together diverse teams who share a passion for food and people, united by one common purpose: To Feed the Human Spirit. This mission drives everything that Kroger does, from innovating the shopping experience to nurturing growth opportunities for its associates.
In this role, you will be an essential part of the Kroger family, playing a key role in delivering outstanding customer experiences through exceptional service within the bakery department. Your daily responsibilities revolve around creating an inviting, safe, and clean environment that encourages customers to return, helping to increase sales and profitability. You will assist the department manager in achieving sales targets and maintaining quality assurance standards across the department. With an emphasis on quality and customer satisfaction, you will prepare and decorate baked goods, including cakes, pastries, cupcakes, and cookies, often customizing items such as wedding cakes based on customer requests.
A critical part of your job is to engage with customers warmly and knowledgeably, making them feel important and appreciated. You should be able to answer questions regarding products, make suggestions, and offer samples to help customers discover new items. Your role also includes monitoring product quality by checking freshness and sell-by dates and managing inventory levels to ensure the department is well-stocked and organized.
Safety and compliance are paramount in this position. You will be responsible for adhering to all local, state, and federal health and civil regulations. This includes following merchandising, food safety, labor control, loss prevention, and customer engagement rules. You will also participate in preventive maintenance of bakery equipment and report discrepancies or safety concerns promptly.
Kroger values its associates and offers comprehensive benefits to support your physical, emotional, and financial well-being. Employees enjoy access to affordable healthcare options including medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage. Flexible work schedules are available in both full-time and part-time roles, with paid time off including holidays and sick pay, depending on eligibility. Additional support comes through an Employee Assistance Program providing free counseling, as well as confidential financial coaching via Goldman Sachs Ayco. Associates benefit from valuable discounts on purchases across food, travel, technology, and more.
Moreover, Kroger invests in your career growth with up to $21,000 in tuition reimbursement over your lifetime through its industry-leading Continuing Education program. With abundant training opportunities and diverse career pathways, the potential for advancement is vast. Whether you are seeking a part-time job or a new career, Kroger provides the foundation and resources for you to thrive and succeed. If you are caring, purpose-driven, and eager to learn, this position at Kroger offers a fresh opportunity to fulfill your professional aspirations and be part of a company that truly values people.
