Maintaining product quality and safety is a critical aspect of this position. The associate will ensure that all products meet freshness standards by checking sell-by dates and enforcing food safety regulations. Proper labeling, packaging, and inventory management of bakery products are also important duties. Associates must monitor temperatures in cases and coolers, keep accurate temperature logs, and uphold safety programs by identifying and reporting unsafe conditions or potential hazards.
In addition to these operational responsibilities, this role supports preventive maintenance by inspecting kitchen equipment and notifying management of any repair needs. The associate will help foster a safe working environment by promptly reporting any accidents, safety risks, or illegal activities such as theft or fraud. The ability to handle stressful situations while maintaining effective communication is essential.
The position requires a current food handler's permit once employed and basic math skills. Job Duties
- create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store
- gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products
- prepare bakery items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
- offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about
- inform customers of bakery specials
- provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered and the correct portion size (or as close as possible to the amount ordered) to prevent shrink
- recommend bakery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need
