The Bakery Department Assistant Manager role is a dynamic position responsible for supporting the Department Manager in all bakery functions, including planning, organizing, training, and directing team members. Job Requirements
- Willing to work weekends and holidays
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated aptitude to manage people and organize workloads
- Ability to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations and make a positive impression on associates and customers
- Possess skills for production, merchandising and customer services related to sale of merchandise
- Understanding of department operations
- Knowledge of laws and regulations related to employment practices and safety
- Must be able to work with cleaning solutions, safely use sharp tools, and operate slicing equipment
- Qualified and able to operate power machinery and various job tools such as power jacks, box cutters, balers, and compactors
Job Qualifications
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated aptitude to manage people and organize workloads
- Ability to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations
- Skills in production, merchandising and customer service related to merchandise sales
- Understanding of department operations
- Knowledge of employment and safety laws and regulations
- Capable of safely using cleaning solutions, sharp tools, slicing equipment and power machinery
- Experience in bakery or similar work preferred
- A past work record reflecting dependability and integrity
Job Duties
- Assist the Department Manager in organizing work, filling department staffing needs, and training and scheduling associates
- Keep department temperature logs updated and ensure associate compliance
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer and associate comments, complaints, requests, and questions
- Use Computer Assisted Ordering to manage inventory and product accounting in the Department Manager's absence
- Perform and direct pricing and displaying of merchandise, maintaining proper signage, product rotation, freshness, and space allocation
- Counsel associates on merchandising techniques, customer service, product presentation and promotional activities
- Implement company programs and policies ensuring a harassment-free work environment
- Provide input on department budgets, goals and results to Department Manager
- Maintain equipment and facilities in accordance with policies, ensuring cleanliness and sanitation
- Promote, communicate and implement company initiatives and process improvements
- Supervise and coach direct reports, including completing performance reviews and providing feedback
- Perform essential job functions with or without accommodation
