The Bakery Clerk role at Pete's Fresh Market is an essential position responsible for maintaining the bakery department's high standards and delivering an excellent customer experience. This role is hourly, with starting wages at or above the local minimum wage, based on experience and location, with rates ranging from $15 to $18 per hour depending on the store and market area. The Bakery Clerk reports directly to the Bakery Department Manager and Store Manager, working collaboratively to ensure the bakery section runs smoothly and efficiently.
As a Bakery Clerk, you'll be handling a variety of tasks crucial to the inventory and presentation of bakery products, including breads, pastries, cakes, gelato, and other specialty items varying by location. Your duties will encompass receiving and stocking deliveries, preparing and packaging bakery items, labeling and pricing products appropriately, and ensuring all items meet strict quality and freshness standards by checking sell-by dates and inspecting products regularly.
This role also requires operating bakery equipment such as ovens, stoves, bread slicers (if over 18 years old), and computerized scales safely and effectively. Workers in this role must adhere to strict sanitation protocols, maintain clean workspaces, and properly store ingredients and products. The ability to provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service is paramount, as Bakery Clerks assist customers by answering questions, processing orders promptly, and contributing to a positive shopping experience.
In addition to the physical aspects of the job, such as standing for long periods, lifting products up to 60 pounds, and managing potentially stressful situations, the Bakery Clerk must have good communication skills and a passion for food.
