The role of a Bakery Associate at Weis Markets is vital to the bakery department’s success and the overall customer experience. This part-time, regular position involves preparing, baking, decorating, and stocking a wide variety of bakery items such as breads, rolls, sweet goods, cakes, donuts, and refrigerated or frozen items. The Bakery Associate ensures that the bakery displays are appealing and fully stocked to meet customer demand, creating an inviting environment that encourages purchases. Beyond baking activities, the associate greets customers with a friendly attitude, answers questions about products, and helps resolve queries or concerns promptly and courteously. The role requires skills in mixing, shaping, proofing, and baking bakery goods, as well as decorating cakes to meet specific designs or custom requests.

Additionally, the Bakery Associate is responsible for taking customer orders both in person and via phone with a positive attitude, accurately capturing the customer’s preferences to deliver timely and well-decorated finished products. The associate also contributes to the overall bakery department’s efficiency by assisting with tasks such as filling, wrapping, pricing, stocking, and merchandising products according to production logs. Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene is a critical component of the job, as the associate must follow cleaning schedules, adhere to health and OSHA standards, dispose of trash appropriately, and use all company-provided personal protective equipment to ensure safety and sanitation.

Though this position does not include supervisory responsibilities, the Bakery Associate plays an important role in ensuring smooth department functions by collaborating effectively with co-workers and supervisors. Additional duties may include receiving and handling deliveries, operating equipment like power jacks if properly trained, and occasionally assisting in other departments.
