The role at Whole Foods Market involves working in the retail environment with a focus on baking and pastry production. This position requires preparing, decorating, and finishing baked goods such as breads, cakes, pies, cookies, and breakfast pastries. The candidate will engage in various production tasks including baking, cooling, wrapping, and labeling of products, as well as stocking dry goods. Emphasis is placed on not only maintaining the highest standards in product quality but also on innovation through developing new recipes and production techniques that reflect seasonal trends and boost productivity. The role includes training other production staff and managing production planning and forecasting for special events and holidays. Working closely with the Datapax system for maintaining production modules is also a key part of the job.

Customer service plays an integral part in this role. Team Members are expected to provide courteous, friendly, and efficient service, maximizing sales through effective merchandising and suggestive selling techniques. The position demands adherence to all health and safety regulations, ensuring clean and sanitary work and shopping environments, and maintaining equipment to Whole Foods Market’s cleanliness and safety standards.

The position is hourly paid, with a wage range of $17.50 to $25.40, based on experience. Team Members who successfully complete 90 days of employment may be eligible for a base rate increase. Job Requirements

  • must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • standing or walking for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday
  • ability to use hand motions such as single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • capability to perform motions including bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • exposure to temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerator), and above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • ability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • may require use of ladders

Job Duties

  • Produces quality breads and pastries
  • produces doughs, mixes, cakes, cookies, breakfast pastries, pies, and bars
  • performs baking, cooling, wrapping, and labeling of products
  • stocks dry products
  • develops new recipes and production techniques to ensure seasonal variance and high productivity
  • trains production personnel to the highest industry standards
  • performs production planning and forecasting for special events and holidays
  • maintains all production modules in the Datapax system
  • arrives to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
  • provides excellent customer service, addresses needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and models suggestive selling techniques
  • answers phones and pages promptly and courteously
  • maximizes sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
  • follows and complies with established procedures including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
  • maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment
  • maintains equipment per cleanliness and safety standards
  • performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
  • ensures accuracy of signs and pricing
  • immediately reports safety hazards and violations
