Job Description
The hiring establishment is a well-established bakery department operating within a larger retail division, known for its commitment to quality, customer service, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards. It is part of a corporate structure that champion customer service programs across divisions to meet or exceed customer satisfaction goals. The company maintains a strong focus on product quality, freshness, and proper merchandising, ensuring that all bakery products are baked, decorated, sliced, and packaged to the highest standards. They emphasize a safe and clean working environment, aligning with federal, state, and local health and food safety regulations. Furthermore, the bakery prioritizes effective inventory management, promotional displays, and loss prevention efforts to control expenses and maximize profitability.
The role is a Bakery Department Manager position responsible for overseeing and directing the daily operations of the bakery department. This includes planning, organizing, and executing operational strategies with independent judgment and discretion. The manager conducts daily inspections to ensure compliance with product quality and safety protocols, implements promotional and seasonal displays, and maintains accurate records related to sales, labor, inventory, and purchasing. They are responsible for inventory control including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating bakery products while ensuring merchandise complies with labeling laws and company policies.
In this leadership role, the bakery manager supervises bakery staff, including bakers, decorators, and sales associates, motivating and training personnel, participating in hiring and recommending personnel actions such as hiring, firing, layoffs, or disciplinary measures. The position requires strong communication skills to effectively communicate sales goals, departmental performance, and promotional opportunities to associates. Additionally, the manager handles customer relations by assisting with special orders, engaging in suggestive selling, and resolving complaints while ensuring cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards are met across the department.
This job involves physical demands such as lifting objects weighing up to approximately 40 pounds, operating equipment like ovens and mixers, repetitive hand movements for decorating and packaging, and standing for extended periods. The manager must maintain a professional demeanor while adhering to company grooming standards and dress code and complying fully with company policies and procedures. This position demands the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, including inventory management, personnel supervision, and customer service excellence.
The pay range for this bakery manager position is $27.40 per hour or no less than the local minimum wage, with starting rates varying based on location, experience, qualifications, and any applicable collective bargaining agreements. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, sick pay, paid time off or vacation pay, paid holidays, bereavement pay, and retirement benefits including pension or 401k eligibility. This is a safety-sensitive position with job responsibilities that affect the health and safety of the employee and others.
