The role of Bakery Manager at Sprouts Farmers Market is a critical leadership position responsible for the overall performance of the Bakery Department. This full-time role involves managing daily baking, production, and display of bakery products such as cookies, bread, and muffins using proven ingredients to maintain quality and consistency. The Bakery Manager supervises team members, tracks inventory, manages the department budget, and ensures compliance with company standards for safety, food handling, sanitation, and productivity. A vital part of the role is to evaluate department conditions to identify strengths and areas for improvement and develop enhanced operational practices and procedures.

In addition to overseeing operations, the Bakery Manager is responsible for correct ordering, receiving, unloading, and storage, as well as executing product rotation and building attractive displays. They manage inventory levels, maintain pricing integrity, oversee merchandising efforts, and plan orders to maximize sales and gross profit. Leadership duties include engaging and evaluating team members through coaching and feedback, conducting performance reviews, and participating in hiring, promotion, and disciplinary decisions in collaboration with store management and HR partners.

Serving as a Key Carrier or Manager on Duty (MOD) when needed, the Bakery Manager plays a central role in ensuring the department operates efficiently and meets company goals. They create and adjust schedules to optimize productivity, communicate standards and product knowledge effectively, and lead a team focused on delivering top quality products and the highest level of customer service. Job Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have minimum 2 years retail grocery experience
  • Be dependable and reliable
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Have outgoing and friendly behavior and positive attitude
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to give and take direction
  • Able to answer phones and take special orders
  • Perform general housekeeping and sanitation duties
  • Able to operate knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks
  • Knowledge of scales and weight measures for product labeling
  • Able to stand for extended periods
  • Able to transfer trays and items of specified weight and distance without mechanical assistance
  • Adhere to safety, health, and regulatory standards
  • Maintain Food Handlers permit
  • Working knowledge of personnel and financial reports

Job Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years of age with a minimum of 2 years retail grocery experience
  • Demonstrate dependable and reliable work ethic with ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Show outgoing and friendly behavior with positive attitude towards Team Members and customers
  • Possess good communication skills and ability to give and take direction in a team environment
  • Ability to answer phones and take special orders
  • Perform general housekeeping in the department including cleaning and sanitizing work areas
  • Operate knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed
  • Use knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products
  • Stand for up to 3 hours continuously for an 8-hour shift
  • Vertically transfer trays up to 5 lbs from 7” to 64” for up to 10 hours
  • Vertically and horizontally transfer items up to 40 lbs over distances up to 36 feet for up to 10 hours without mechanical assistance
  • Adhere to all safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations
  • Achieve and maintain a Food Handlers permit
  • Possess working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals

Job Duties

  • Manage the daily output baking, production, and display of bakery products
  • Supervise and monitor product quality and consistency
  • Track inventory and manage the bakery's budget
  • Evaluate department conditions and operations to determine strengths and areas for improvement
  • Develop improved practices and procedures
  • Ensure company standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation, and productivity are maintained
  • Responsible for correct ordering, receiving, unloading, and storage
  • Execute rotation of merchandise and building of displays
  • Manage department inventory, in-stocks, pricing integrity, merchandising, labor, and other operational processes to Sprouts standards
  • Plan and order according to company standards to maximize sales and gross profit
  • Engage and evaluate team members through coaching, feedback, and development discussions
  • Make recommendations on merit increases via bi-annual performance reviews
  • Attend and participate in in-store meetings
  • Recruit, hire, and make promotion/transfer decisions in collaboration with Store Manager
  • Exercise independent judgment to address Team Member concerns
  • Take and document corrective actions including coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline
  • Create and adjust schedules and staffing levels to ensure productivity and efficiency
  • Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes, and product knowledge
  • Lead a team to deliver quality products and exceptional customer experience
  • Serve as a Key Carrier and/or Manager on Duty as needed
