The Bakery Department Supervisor position at Weis Markets is an integral leadership role responsible for overseeing bakery operations, staff, and customer interactions to ensure an outstanding shopping experience. This role emphasizes excellent customer service by fostering a positive and customer-focused environment among associates. The supervisor actively participates in decorating bakery products, managing inventory, supervising scheduling and training, and implementing merchandising plans to meet financial and quality goals. They ensure that bakery items adhere to company-approved recipes, attention to freshness and quality, and proper sanitation and safety standards. This position also involves monitoring sales, controlling expenses, and maintaining robust communication with staff and other departments to ensure seamless operations. The Bakery Department Supervisor plays a pivotal role in associate development, performance management, and maintaining compliance with health and OSHA requirements.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GEd) required
  • Minimum 3 years’ management experience in retail, restaurant, or supermarket environment
  • Previous decorating experience preferred
  • Ability to perform all essential duties satisfactorily with or without accommodation
  • Commitment to upholding company policies and safety standards
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GEd) required
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business related or food service-related field desirable
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in management in retail, restaurant, or supermarket environment
  • Previous decorating experience preferred
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities
  • Proficiency in inventory management and merchandising
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Ability to train, motivate and develop associates

Job Duties

  • Promotes excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer focused behavior with associates
  • Smiles and greets customers, answers customer questions and helps resolve customer concerns promptly in a polite and professional manner
  • Focuses on continuous improvement in all areas of the department and makes changes to ensure progress
  • Takes customer orders over the phone or in person with a pleasant and positive attitude
  • Creates finished decorated bakery products in a timely fashion
  • Decorates cakes and bakery products using dyes, specific and custom designs
  • Makes icing for cakes and related products adhering to company approved recipes
  • Manages department inventories by tracking weekly sales reports, orders products and supplies to meet customer demands and company goals
  • Schedules bakery associates, participates in training, rewards and recognizes performance, delegates work assignments
  • Participates in associate annual performance reviews and new hire interviews
  • Develops and implements merchandising plans that meet financial goals
  • Knowledgeable on weekly ads and specials to ensure correct pricing and production amounts
  • Prepares, maintains and tracks records related to inventories and gross monthly profits
  • Checks and verifies all department deliveries and invoices for accuracy
  • Controls department expenses by improving operations and efficiencies
  • Maintains freshness by properly handling and recording out of code products
  • Keeps bakery department stocked and appealing
  • Ensures merchandise is fresh, in saleable condition and properly priced with correct signage
  • Adheres to cleaning schedules and department guidelines to meet health and OSHA requirements
  • Cooperates with co-workers and supervisors to ensure smooth department and store function
  • Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protective Equipment
  • May assist in other departments as needed
