The Bakery Lead role at BJ's Wholesale Club is a vital position responsible for overseeing bakery production and operational standards within the bakery department. The Bakery Lead is tasked with maintaining high standards of bakery production by efficiently managing inventory levels, ensuring timely replenishment, and applying FIFO (First In, First Out) rotation procedures to minimize waste and safeguard product quality. The role involves regular analysis of sales, waste, and shrink data to identify process improvements and cost savings. Maintaining sanitation and safety compliance is crucial, including overseeing the cleanliness of bakery equipment like ovens and refrigeration units while staying aligned with ServSafe and cold chain procedures.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • must be at least 18 years of age
  • must maintain all training and required certifications

Job Duties

  • lead bakery department operations maintaining and executing bakery operational standards ensuring efficient production and high-quality prepared foods
  • manage inventory proactively ensuring proper product availability by monitoring inventory levels and executing timely replenishment
  • demonstrate full proficiency executing operational functions including preparing baking and merchandising bakery items to company standards
  • ensure accurate item labeling with correct pricing and compliance
  • analyze production and sales tracking sales waste and shrink data for process improvements
  • maintain sanitation and safety compliance following food safety guidelines and equipment maintenance
  • report operational concerns such as equipment malfunctions stock shortages or food safety risks to management
  • execute proper product rotation applying FIFO procedures
  • conduct quality and date checks inspecting products for expiration dates and condition
  • execute seasonal promotions merchandising initiatives and special event displays
  • support club initiatives including inventory audits shrink control and performance tracking
  • conduct routine case inspections of bakery cases and coolers to ensure conditions
  • assist with receiving and inspection of produce shipments
  • support inventory audit and reconciliation efforts
  • monitor product freshness and conduct quality assurance
  • perform other duties as assigned
  • maintain regular predictable full attendance
