The Bakery Manager role is pivotal in guaranteeing that the bakery department maintains its high standards, supports overall store performance, and meets customer expectations consistently. This is a full-time position that involves leadership, management, and hands-on bakery operations.
As the Bakery Manager, you will be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Bakery department within the store. You will lead and manage a team of bakery partners, ensuring that they deliver excellent service to customers while maintaining product quality and safety. You will also be tasked with preparing work schedules, ordering products, controlling inventory, and monitoring the department budget and payroll to optimize profitability and efficiency.
Operationally, the Bakery Manager prepares production plans to ensure the correct quantity and variety of products meet customer demands. Monitoring and managing product levels and tracking showcase production and stale items to reduce waste are critical elements of this role. Sales activities include executing merchandising programs, driving sales through appropriate product assortments, and constantly seeking to increase department contribution by managing shrink and inventory levels. Ensuring top-notch customer service through personal example and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is central to the position.
Food safety and sanitation are paramount, and the Bakery Manager must ensure compliance with federal, state, and company policies. Maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of all bakery equipment and working areas is part of everyday responsibilities, which support overall store hygiene and safety standards.
This role demands advanced interpersonal and communication skills, strong leadership, analytical abilities, and the capability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment. The Bakery Manager must possess organizational and planning skills, have a knack for giving constructive feedback, and demonstrate proficiency with computer tools including MS Office and company-specific retail systems. Adaptability and effective delegation are essential to lead the team successfully through changing business needs and challenges.
The ideal candidate will have prior leadership experience in retail bakery or a related field and relevant certifications such as Certified Bakery Expert or Food Safety certification. The role may involve physical demands such as standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and working in various temperature conditions including cooler and hot environments due to ovens and fryers. Flexibility in working hours and schedules is expected based on business needs.
Overall, the Bakery Manager role offers a dynamic and rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about bakery operations, leadership, and delivering exceptional customer experiences in a well-established retail environment.
