The Bakery Department Manager role at Kroger is pivotal in driving the team’s success by embracing the Customer 1st strategy to create outstanding customer experiences through exceptional service in a clean and safe environment. The manager will also coordinate with store leadership to develop and implement business plans tailored to the bakery department to meet financial objectives. A significant part of the role includes engaging with customers to inform them about bakery specials and promotions, providing product samples, and ensuring customers receive the freshest bakery products in the correct portions to minimize shrink.

Job Duties

  • Promote trust and respect among associates while communicating company, department, and job specific information
  • Collaborate with associates and promote teamwork to help achieve company/store goals
  • Establish performance goals for department and empower associates to meet or exceed targets
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout hours of operation
  • Train and develop associates on performance of their job and participate in the performance appraisal process
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated
  • Inform customers of bakery specials and recommend bakery items to them
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department
  • Prepare bakery items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment and offer product samples
  • Provide customers with fresh products in the correct portion size to prevent shrink
  • Use all bakery equipment including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens following company guidelines
  • Partner with store management to develop and implement a department business plan
  • Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads and inform associates
  • Monitor and control department expenses
  • Assist store management in preparing budgets, profit and loss reviews
  • Schedule routine price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs
  • Plan, organize and supervise inventory process
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with procedures and notify management of unsafe conditions
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting needed repairs
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents
  • Report all safety risks, illegal activities including robbery, theft or fraud
  • Manage conflict cooperatively in high paced and stressful environment
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information
  • Provide support and assistance through interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, or older adults
  • Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
