The Bakery Associate role at BJ's Wholesale Club is integral to the daily operations of the bakery department. This position is responsible for proofing and baking unfinished bakery goods according to specific handling instructions, operating ovens and other bakery equipment, and maintaining the presentation and quality of products in the department. The role requires a keen attention to detail to ensure food safety, freshness, and adherence to company standards. Team members in this position also support a safe and positive environment for both colleagues and members, contribute to inventory management by unpacking and displaying bakery goods properly, and provide excellent customer service by answering questions and fulfilling special orders. In addition, this position involves maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the bakery area to meet all safety and sanitation standards.

Job Requirements

At least 18 years of age
Experience working in a bakery or customer service oriented environment preferred
Ability to follow bakery product handling and safety procedures
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently with occasional assistance for heavier items
Ability to work in an environment with temperature extremes such as freezers and ovens
Ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards
Ability to communicate effectively with members and team members
Regular, predictable, full attendance is required

Job Qualifications

Experience working in a bakery or customer service oriented environment preferred
Knowledge of bakery products preferred
At least 18 years of age

Job Duties

Proof and bake all unfinished bakery goods by following product handling information
Unpack bakery goods from the freezer and display proper amounts according to bakery production charts
Maintain all cleaning and safety standards within the bakery department
Answer questions and recommend bakery items to members
Take special orders and handle member calls
Package freshly baked goods including cookies, pastries, muffins, rolls, breads, pies, and cakes
Decorate special order or case products
Rotate and store bakery products following food safety and freshness policies
Receive, inspect, and store bakery shipments
Generate labels and price tickets for bakery goods and perform price checks
Clean and sanitize bakery equipment and display fixtures
Operate bakery equipment safely and according to procedures
Maintain club policies and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned including working in other departments as needed
Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance
