The Bakery Team Member role at BJ's Wholesale Club involves hands-on involvement in the preparation, baking, and display of bakery products. Individuals in this role are responsible for proofing and baking unfinished bakery goods by adhering to precise product handling instructions, using specialized bakery equipment such as ovens. They will unpack frozen goods and arrange them in appropriate quantities based on detailed production charts, ensuring proper storage and handling to maintain freshness and quality. Additionally, this role includes tasks such as packaging fresh bakery goods—including cookies, pastries, muffins, breads, pies, and cakes—decorating special orders, and maintaining all bakery signage and pricing accuracy through label generation and price checks.

Additionally, the Bakery Team Member must uphold the department's cleanliness and safety standards, sanitizing equipment and workspaces regularly. The position demands strong commitment to club policies, prompt attendance, a positive attitude, and teamwork with a focus on delivering excellent member service adhering to GOLD Member Standards. The role is physically active and may involve lifting items up to 30 pounds, exposure to temperature variations, and occasional physical movements such as bending and reaching. Job Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Physical ability to move about non-hard surfaces
  • Ability to lift objects up to 30 pounds frequently and heavier with assistance
  • Comfortable working in temperature extremes including freezers and ovens
  • Willingness to maintain cleaning standards and handle cleaning agents
  • Regular predictable attendance is essential

Job Qualifications

  • Experience working in a bakery or customer service oriented environment preferred
  • Knowledge of bakery products preferred
  • At least 18 years of age

Job Duties

  • Proof and bake all unfinished bakery goods following product handling information
  • Unpack bakery goods from the freezer and display proper amounts based on bakery production chart recommendations
  • Maintain cleaning and safety standards within the bakery department
  • Package freshly baked goods including cookies, pastries, muffins, breads, pies, and cakes
  • Decorate special order or case products
  • Rotate and store bakery products following food safety, freshness, and handling policies
  • Receive, inspect, and store bakery shipments
  • Ensure all products meet quality standards and check for out-of-date products
  • Generate labels and price tickets, ensuring accurate pricing
  • Clean and sanitize bakery equipment, display fixtures, and food surfaces
  • Operate bakery equipment using proper safety methods
  • Maintain all club policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned including working in other departments as needed
  • Ensure regular, predictable, full attendance
