Bakery Clerk

In this role, the bakery clerk will prepare bakery items per customer requests using the proper bakery equipment, offer product samples, inform customers about bakery specials, and recommend products based on individual customer needs. Attention to detail is essential to provide the correct portions that help minimize shrink, and the clerk will use various kitchen equipment such as refrigerators, ovens, fryers, steamers, and computerized scales following company guidelines. The role requires knowledge of food safety regulations, proper food handling, labeling, packaging, inventory management, and maintaining food temperature logs.

The clerk will also be proactive in maintaining product freshness by monitoring sell-by dates and identifying any quality issues. Keeping the department well-stocked and orderly, reporting discrepancies, and understanding the store layout to assist customers effectively are also key responsibilities. Safety awareness is a priority, including identifying unsafe conditions, complying with safety procedures, and reporting any safety risks or illegal activities such as theft or fraud.

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, effective communication ability, and the capacity to perform under stressful situations. A basic understanding of math and the ability to obtain a food handler's permit once employed are required. Previous experience in customer service, especially within bakery, deli, or retail environments, is considered beneficial.
