Job Description
Brigham Young University (BYU) stands as the flagship institution of higher education affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Renowned not only for its rigorous academic programs but also for its foundational commitment to faith and moral values, BYU offers a nurturing environment where education and spiritual growth go hand-in-hand. Located on a beautiful, historic campus, BYU is dedicated to assisting individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life, embedding its mission deeply in the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The university fosters a strong culture of belonging, with weekly devotionals, abundant learning opportunities, and a supportive community aimed at personal and professional development.
Within this unique environment, the Bakery Chef de Partie - Cougartail Production role holds significant importance in supporting BYU's campus dining operations. This position specializes in overseeing the production and icing of the iconic Cougartail Donuts, a beloved item known across campus. The Bakery Chef de Partie not only manages the hands-on baking process but also mentors and supervises student employees, ensuring that food quality, sanitation standards, and proper handling procedures are upheld consistently. Utilizing a computerized inventory and ordering system, this role also involves managing production schedules, keeping track of inventory levels, and verifying the quality and quantities of products to meet campus demands.
This full-time role offers a competitive starting pay range between $25.25 and $32.75 per hour, translating into an annual salary of approximately $52,500 to $68,000, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to monetary compensation, BYU provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, generous vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays, medical and dental insurance, and various employee wellness programs. Being part of BYU’s workforce means engaging in a service-oriented, faith-centered workplace where employees are valued for their unique perspectives and contributions.
This position may require physical efforts such as lifting up to 50 pounds, working in varying temperature conditions, and occasional awkward postures, reflecting the dynamic nature of bakery production. Candidates will undergo a physical exam and lift test as part of the hiring process. The workplace environment embraces safety measures but acknowledges moderate inherent hazards related to handling baking equipment and inventory management in cooler areas.
The ideal candidate for this role should demonstrate a strong alignment with BYU’s mission and values and have past experience in food service or bakery production, although it is not mandatory. Preference is given to individuals with three or more years of full-time bakery production experience or relevant culinary certifications from accredited institutions. The position requires flexibility to accommodate shifting schedules and additional hours as needed, emphasizing a commitment to teamwork and quality production.
Joining BYU as a Bakery Chef de Partie is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to contribute to a community that blends spiritual devotion with academic excellence and professional growth. Employees are part of an environment where faith, learning, and service converge to create a truly inspiring workplace. For those willing to commit to BYU’s mission and eager to lead and mentor others in bakery production, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on campus life and be part of a respected institution committed to higher ideals.
