As a Bakery Cake Designer at Hy-Vee, you will play a crucial role in the Bakery Department, responsible for decorating bakery items and assisting customers with their orders both over the phone and in person. This position is non-exempt and demands a blend of creativity, customer service skills, and teamwork. Your daily tasks will involve crafting visually appealing and delicious bakery products such as cakes, while maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety.

This role requires a customer-focused professional who can provide prompt, courteous service, and maintain a positive company image. You will work closely with the Bakery Department Manager and store leadership, including the District Store Director and Store Manager. In this position, you will also act as a lead worker when necessary, instructing and reviewing the work of part-time or other employees to ensure the production schedule runs smoothly.

As part of the Bakery team, you will keep up to date with new decorating designs and trends to delight customers with the latest styles. You will facilitate the ordering and inventory of decorating supplies, manage the production timeline based on daily orders, and contribute to the overall bakery workflow. Your interaction with customers will be warm and engaging; greeting them by name whenever possible, answering questions, and helping them locate products or fulfill special requests.

Working conditions include a store environment with exposure to flour dust, cleaning chemicals, and temperature extremes. Physical requirements to be successful in this role include the ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally with team assistance, stand, walk, climb, and perform repetitive motions typical in a bakery setting. The work environment is fast-paced and demands the ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities efficiently.
