The Bakery Cake Designer position within Hy-Vee's Bakery Department plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer experiences. This non-exempt role involves decorating bakery items with creativity and precision, while also assisting customers with their bakery orders both over the phone and in person. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience
- Ability to solve practical problems
- Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
- Ability to file, post, and mail materials
- Ability to guide people and provide basic direction
- Ability to work physically within a bakery environment lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, grasp, feel, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions
- Good vision including color vision and depth perception
- Ability to adhere to company policies and sanitation standards
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen

Job Duties
- Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service exhibiting care, concern and patience
- Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner in all store areas
- Make an effort to learn and use customers' names
- Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items and performing tasks to enhance shopping experience
- Answer telephone promptly and take product orders
- Take customer orders at Bakery counter
- Work with co-workers as a team ensuring customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
- Check daily orders and set production schedules
- Decorate bakery items timely keeping current on new designs and trends
- Ensure department standards are met
- Check cake orders for details and indicate supply needs
- Order and check supplies for decorating area
- Deliver and set up wedding cakes on site
- Communicate with bakery manager about displays, weekly ads, and special needs
- Check product dates, pull cases for work, and list items to fill or replace
- Develop bakery orders for bakers daily
- Track daily retail production and identify tasks
- Operate as lead worker instructing and reviewing work
- Participate in employee cross training
- Practice proper sanitation procedures
- Adhere to company policies and store guidelines
- Report to work when scheduled and on time
