Job Description

Northgate Gonzalez Market is a well-established grocery store chain that originated in Anaheim, California, back in 1980. Since opening its doors, it has expanded to over 40 locations across Southern California, becoming a trusted name in neighborhood markets. Known for a strong commitment to quality, community, and customer satisfaction, Northgate Gonzalez Market offers a welcoming shopping environment filled with fresh produce, authentic Hispanic foods, and a wide variety of grocery products. This company has grown based on its dedication to serving local communities with cultural authenticity and superior customer service, providing an outstanding shopping experience.

As an employer, Northgate Gonzalez Market creates a positive and inclusive work environment that values its team members. They offer flexible schedules to accommodate employees' varied needs and opportunities for career growth within the company. Team members receive an associate discount of up to 20 percent for themselves and their household, emphasizing the company’s commitment to employee satisfaction. They seek individuals who are enthusiastic, customer-focused, and team-oriented — creating an atmosphere of collaboration and mutual respect.

The current opening is for a Baker position within their team. This role is critical in maintaining the high standards of quality and freshness that customers expect. Bakers at Northgate Gonzalez Market are responsible for full bakery operations, including the preparation of dough, scratch baking, operating bakery equipment, and maintaining ingredient inventory. They ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and uphold meticulous cleanliness in their work areas. This position requires a hands-on approach combined with attention to detail, as bakers contribute to the fresh baked goods that keep customers returning.

Bakers will actively participate in daily bakery processes such as unloading deliveries, rotating stock using FIFO (first in, first out) principles, mixing and decorating sweet breads, cookies, and rolls, and operating ovens at the proper temperature. They support inventory management and quality control by monitoring product sales and ensuring optimal production levels to reduce waste. Safety and sanitation are paramount; bakers adhere strictly to local, state, and federal health regulations. Moreover, they embody leadership qualities by assisting in training teammates, maintaining communication, and representing the company positively in customer interactions.

This role requires a combination of physical stamina — lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for long periods, and working in temperature-varied environments like refrigerated storage and heated ovens. The ideal candidate is skilled in measuring ingredients, communicating effectively in English, and has at least three years of bakery experience or an equivalent education and experience combination. Health department training is required prior to employment.

Candidates must also complete a baker assessment test as part of the hiring process, ensuring competency in key baking skills. Northgate Gonzalez Market’s commitment to equal opportunity means all qualified applicants receive fair consideration without discrimination. The company fully complies with federal work eligibility regulations and supports candidates' rights under fair employment laws.

Overall, joining Northgate Gonzalez Market as a Baker means becoming part of a passionate team dedicated to quality, culture, and community, with opportunities for personal growth in a supportive environment.
