The company goes beyond conventional grocery retailing by actively engaging in impactful community programs such as funding grants for school gardens and improving access to fresh food in underserved food deserts. Additionally, Whole Foods Market is dedicated to alleviating poverty in developing countries and promoting environmental stewardship. This commitment to social responsibility and ethical sourcing has earned them a reputation as a world-changer in the retail space.
The role of Team Leader Assistant at Whole Foods Market is an essential position that involves supporting the daily operations of the store, ensuring profitability, effective expense control, buying, merchandising, and managing labor efficiently. This role is vital in maintaining the highest standards of retail execution, customer service, and team morale. The Assistant Team Leader works closely with the Team Leader to analyze sales and labor reports, develop creative store layouts, and foster strong vendor relationships. Leadership and team development are key components of this position, requiring the ability to motivate, mentor, and manage team members effectively to minimize turnover and maximize performance.
The position demands a high energy, enthusiastic individual who aligns with Whole Foods’ core values and philosophy. The Assistant Team Leader must possess excellent interpersonal skills, product knowledge, and the ability to coach team members for continued growth. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and operational applications is necessary for managing store functions and communications. This role also requires familiarity with regulatory compliance, food safety procedures, and maintaining a positive shopping environment for customers.
Physically, candidates must be capable of lifting heavy items (up to 50 pounds) and able to perform various physical activities such as standing or walking for extended periods, bending, twisting, and working in varying conditions including wet, dry, and temperature extremes. Flexibility in scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required to meet the store’s operational demands. The wage for this role ranges from $19.05 to $33.20 per hour, commensurate with experience.
Whole Foods Market offers comprehensive benefits known as "Whole Benefits," which include store discounts, paid time off, financial wellness programs, health and wellness support, and other team member perks. Eligibility for these benefits depends on the individual's work location, length of service, and employment status (full-time or part-time).
