Job Description

Heinen's is a respected and long-established grocery store chain founded in 1929, known for its commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service. With a rich history spanning nearly a century, Heinen's remains a family-operated business now in its fourth generation of ownership. The company operates 23 stores across two major metropolitan areas—19 locations in Cleveland, Ohio, and 4 stores in Chicago, Illinois. In addition to its retail footprint, Heinen's operates two distribution warehouses, a dedicated food production plant, and a corporate office, all based in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. This extensive network supports Heinen's position as a premier supermarket chain with a reputation for quality, freshness, and superior customer experience. Culturally, Heinen's emphasizes an associate-first approach, focusing on improving the quality of life for every employee through competitive compensation packages, professional growth opportunities, paid time off, and balanced work schedules.

The Retail Professional role at Heinen's represents a pivotal position dedicated to upholding the Diamond Difference Standards that distinguish Heinen's as the premier supermarket brand in Northeast Ohio and Chicago. This role is designed for individuals who embody professionalism, customer-centric service, and a passion for excellence. Retail Professionals are expected to maintain a professional appearance, ensuring that they and their departments always reflect the high standards of the Heinen's brand. Engagement with customers is a key responsibility, including greeting them with a smile and eye contact, evaluating store conditions continuously through the company’s 5-Step QCSSS system—quality, cleanliness, stock levels, signage, and serviceability—and thanking colleagues to foster a positive team environment.

This role involves prioritizing daily tasks according to business needs, acquiring specialized knowledge of the Bakery Department, effectively writing orders with a focus on inventory management, and working collaboratively to fulfill daily departmental responsibilities such as scanning and recording shrink, stocking, rotating products, and merchandising. The Retail Professional is also responsible for rigorously monitoring food handling and temperature standards to guarantee safety and compliance with personal and food safety protocols. Attendance at corporate meetings and training sessions is mandatory to stay aligned with company policies and initiatives. This position offers an opportunity for promotion for motivated individuals who demonstrate a strong work ethic and dedication to professional development.

Heinen's offers a non-traditional five-day work schedule that includes weekends and evenings, ensuring store operations meet customer needs at peak times. Shift hours typically range between 7:00 AM to 8:30 PM on weekdays and 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM on weekends, with up to 29 hours per week. The Retail Professional role requires versatility, physical endurance, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a sense of urgency to complete tasks efficiently. This job is ideal for candidates eager to grow within a supportive company culture that values quality, service, and team success.
