The Bakery Team Member role at BJ's Wholesale Club is an essential position within the bakery department, responsible for proofing and baking all unfinished bakery goods following specific product handling information. This role involves using ovens and other bakery equipment to prepare a wide variety of fresh bakery items such as cookies, Danish pastries, muffins, rolls, breads, pies, cakes, and more. Team members unpack bakery goods from the freezer and display appropriate quantities according to bakery production charts, ensuring quality and safety standards are met at all times. Additionally, they maintain strict cleaning and safety protocols within the bakery area to provide a clean and organized environment. This position requires individuals who are not only skilled in bakery operations but also excel in customer service by answering questions, recommending bakery items, and managing special orders. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in bakery or food service preferred
  • Ability to follow product handling and food safety protocols
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to operate bakery equipment safely
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Physical ability to move, lift, bend, and stand for extended periods
  • Commitment to teamwork and positive work environment
  • Regular and predictable attendance

Job Qualifications

  • Experience working in a bakery or customer service-oriented environment preferred
  • Knowledge of bakery products preferred
  • At least 18 years of age

Job Duties

  • Proofs and bakes all unfinished bakery goods by following each item's product handling information using ovens and other equipment
  • Unpacks bakery goods from the freezer and displays proper amounts based on bakery production chart recommendations
  • Packages freshly baked goods including cookies, Danish pastries, muffins, rolls, breads, pies, and cakes
  • Decorates special order or case product
  • Rotates and stores bakery products following food safety, freshness, and product handling policies and procedures
  • Receives, inspects, and stores bakery shipments
  • Ensures all products are fresh and meet company quality standards
  • Generates labels and price tickets for bakery goods and performs price check functions when necessary
  • Cleans and sanitizes bakery equipment, display fixtures, and food surfaces
  • Operates bakery equipment using proper work methods in accordance with safety policies
  • Maintains all club policies and procedures
  • Answers questions and recommends bakery items
  • Takes special orders and handles member calls
  • Performs other duties as assigned including working in other departments as needed
  • Ensures regular, predictable, full attendance
