Job Description
Piggly Wiggly, operated by C&S Wholesale Grocers, LLC, is a well-established grocery retail chain with over a century of experience serving communities across the Midwest, South, and Northeast regions of the United States. Known for blending the extensive selection and convenience of a national chain with the personalized service and local customization of a community-based retailer, Piggly Wiggly operates both corporate stores and franchise locations under a unique chain-style model. The company prioritizes offering specialized local assortments tailored specifically to meet the needs and preferences of its diverse customer base in various communities. This approach ensures that shoppers receive a personalized and engaging shopping experience that respects their locality and culinary preferences.
As part of its commitment to inclusion and diversity, Piggly Wiggly is an Equal Opportunity Employer that provides employment consideration without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected category under state or federal law. The company actively supports affirmative action efforts, particularly for qualified individuals with disabilities and protected veterans, ensuring compliance with relevant federal regulations.
The Bakery Assistant Manager role at Piggly Wiggly is a full-time position focused on supporting the Bakery Department Manager in overseeing all bakery operations within the store. This position requires a hands-on leader who supports team productivity, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. The primary duties involve greeting customers and assisting them with product selection, providing expert advice on bakery items, accurately taking specialty and custom cake orders, and ensuring that bakery products are properly packaged and ready for sale. Maintaining attractive and fully stocked product displays is essential to drive sales and encourage repeat business.
The Bakery Assistant Manager is responsible for enforcing compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations related to bakery operations, including safety and sanitation protocols. Achieving financial goals such as maximizing sales and gross profit is critical, and minimizing product waste through proper handling and storage practices helps improve the department’s efficiency and profitability. This role also involves administrative tasks such as completing paperwork related to bakery operations and supporting the Bakery Manager in employee training and development.
This role demands physical stamina, as it requires standing, walking, bending, and performing repetitive motions throughout the workday. The Assistant Manager must be adept at basic computer functions as well as being able to perform routine math operations. The position is primarily during morning shifts, with the schedule varying according to store needs and subject to interviewer availability. Importantly, this position does not require travel and is based within a grocery warehouse environment at typical temperatures ranging from 50F to 90F.
With 1-2 years of prior bakery or retail experience preferred, the ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow company policies rigorously. Being able to take direction from the Bakery Manager and assume managerial responsibilities in their absence is also crucial, indicating a readiness to step into leadership when needed. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about bakery operations and customer service who wishes to grow their career within a reputable and community-focused grocery retailer.
