The Deli/Bakery Clerk position at Fresh Thyme Market is integral to the smooth operation of the food service department. This role involves maintaining the cleanliness and stocking of deli and bakery cases throughout business hours to ensure a safe and pleasant shopping experience for customers. Clerks are tasked with organizing product presentation, ensuring accuracy in tagging and pricing, and vigilantly managing product freshness by discarding expired items. Customer service is a key component, requiring the clerk to assist shoppers with product information, purchasing decisions, and cross-selling opportunities. Additionally, this role involves receiving shipments, inspecting products for quality and temperature control, and utilizing various tools and equipment such as knives, scales, and pallet jacks. The clerk also participates in inventory preparation and maintains high product knowledge and preparation standards. Physical demands include standing and walking for extended periods, balance and occasional bending or crouching, and the ability to lift varying weights up to 50 pounds. Job Requirements

  • 1-2 years grocery retail experience in food service preferred
  • Knowledge of health department guidelines
  • Ability to work varied hours
  • Basic math skills

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Ensures cleanliness of deli/bakery cases, storage area, and work area for safety
  • Stocks deli/bakery cases including product presentation, facing, filling, and organization
  • Examines product rotation and discards expired or spoiled items
  • Responds to customer inquiries and assists with purchases and product selection including selling and cross-selling
  • Receives, inspects, and logs products for shipment accuracy and quality
  • Monitors point of purchase signs and promotional materials
  • Operates equipment such as knives, scales, and pallet jacks
  • Prepares various deli/bakery items using proper ingredients and cooking times
  • Participates in pre-inventory preparation
  • Maintains high levels of product knowledge and preparation
  • Conducts regular walks to ensure cleanliness and organization
  • Performs other duties as assigned
