Job Description
SpartanNash, a proud member of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family of companies, is a leading food solutions company committed to delivering the ingredients for a better life. Operating as a distributor, wholesaler, and retailer, SpartanNash boasts a global supply chain network that efficiently distributes grocery and household goods—including fresh produce and the Our Family portfolio of products—to locations across all 50 states. This expansive reach enables the company to serve a diverse range of customers, from national accounts and independent grocers to e-commerce retailers, U.S. military commissaries and exchanges, as well as its own brick-and-mortar grocery stores, pharmacies, and fuel centers.
SpartanNash prides itself on fostering a work culture filled with 'braggingly happy' team members who perform a variety of roles including bakery managers, order selectors, IT developers, finance executives, HR business partners, and export specialists. Together, these team members build strong relationships that create braggingly happy customers and contribute to the company's status as a trusted food solutions provider.
The role of Bakery Associate at SpartanNash is located at 2103 Parkview Ave, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49008, and is focused on independently preparing and producing bakery products while adhering to company guidelines for safety, food safety, and guest experience. The position entails the frying, packaging, displaying, and stocking of a wide array of bakery products. As a Bakery Associate, you will not only contribute to the financial well-being of the store but also play a vital part in maintaining high standards of product quality and presentation.
This role demands attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the safety of both food products and the work environment. You will be expected to prepare bakery products in accordance with a production planner, accurately package and label items to reflect program plans, and ensure proper merchandising aligned with flight and merchandising expectations. Keeping the backroom stocked and organized by rotating and dating products will be an essential part of your routine to support sales and inventory management.
Communication is key in this role; you will regularly collaborate with other departments and stores to drive growth within SpartanNash’s retail stores. It's essential to understand and apply basic math skills for tasks such as weighing and measuring ingredients, as well as documenting recipes and cleaning steps. Safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), must be rigorously followed at all times to safeguard both staff and customers.
Flexibility is also important, as you may be assigned tasks in other departments when necessary to enhance the overall customer experience. This dynamic work environment offers the opportunity to develop diverse skills while contributing to a team-oriented, customer-focused atmosphere.
SpartanNash is dedicated to its People First culture, providing competitive total rewards and benefits that support the health, well-being, and growth of every associate. The company is steadfast in its commitment to equal opportunity employment, embracing diversity, inclusivity, and continuous development. As part of SpartanNash, you would join a company that values your contributions, offers professional growth opportunities, and strives for excellence in food service and retail operations.
