Job Description
Levain Bakery is a renowned bakery founded in 1995 by competitive triathletes and passionate bakers Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald in New York City. The company began with a humble small bread shop on West 74th Street but quickly became famous for a signature 6-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie originally baked to fuel triathlon training. Over the years, Levain Bakery has grown into a beloved neighborhood fixture and a destination for food lovers globally, attracting epicurious visitors eager to experience their legendary cookie. The bakery has expanded beyond its original location, establishing multiple bakeries across the United States and offering e-commerce gift boxes so that cookie enthusiasts nationwide can enjoy their products.
Levain Bakery’s commitment to quality is evident in their approach to baking everything fresh on-site daily and donating leftovers to charity — a practice maintained for nearly three decades. Their corporate vision emphasizes creating lifelong memories through their products and customer interactions. The mission stresses the unity of those who craft and consume their baked goods, grounded in the core company values: welcoming all, hard work and kindness, leading with heart, rising up to improve, and savoring each moment. These values shape every aspect of the bakery’s culture and operations, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
The role of Baker Team Leader is critical to maintaining the excellence for which Levain Bakery is known. As a Baker Team Leader, you will collaborate closely with General Managers and Shift Baker Team Leaders to supervise and support baking shifts, ensuring that every baked item meets the highest standards of quality and consistency. This role requires in-depth baking knowledge coupled with strong leadership and problem-solving skills. You will be responsible for motivating, coaching, and mentoring team members to foster a respectful, goal-oriented, and collaborative workplace culture. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating calmness under pressure and attention to detail while ensuring accurate adherence to baking recipes and processes.
In addition to leadership duties, this position encompasses hands-on baking and quality control responsibilities including preparing breads, cookies, and other goods; monitoring baking times and temperatures; managing inventory using FIFO practices; and collaborating with management to fulfill catering and pre-orders. The Baker Team Leader plays a vital role in training new hires and continuously improving both product knowledge and team performance.
Levain Bakery offers competitive compensation with an hourly wage range of $22 to $25.25 plus a 10% quarterly bonus potential, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, vision, and dental insurance; employer-funded healthcare reimbursement; commuter and bike-share reimbursement; up to 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave; paid time off; and a 401(k) plan with company matching. The company is deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering a workplace where all employees feel empowered and valued. Joining Levain Bakery means becoming part of a passionate team dedicated to exceptional baking craft and creating memorable experiences for customers and employees alike.
