The role of a baker at Polly's involves hands-on work with all aspects of baking from preparation to final production. Bakers are essential contributors who ensure the delivery of delicious and fresh products to customers, following exact recipes and portion standards. Responsibilities include preparing breakfast items such as quiches and cinnamon rolls, baking various types of bread, muffins, cookies, and handling seasonal fruit for pies and toppings. Bakers also manage the labeling, organization, and rotation of ingredients and inventory to guarantee freshness daily. The position requires the ability to maintain a clean and sanitary workspace while adhering to health, safety, and sanitation policies consistently. Communication with coaching staff about product quality and inventory levels is vital to maintaining smooth bakery operations.
This role demands flexibility as bakers must be available to work morning, afternoon, and evening shifts, including weekends and holidays. Cross-training in other kitchen areas is encouraged to support overall back-of-house functions. A minimum of 1 year of experience as a cook or baker, or enrollment in a culinary program, is required to qualify for this position. Competency in using baking equipment such as ovens and mixers, alongside an understanding of food safety and kitchen guidelines, is essential. Additionally, possessing a valid Food Handler's Card, where required by county regulations, is mandatory. Job Duties
- Prepare products using all methods, established portions, and recipes for baking preparation
- manages daily production and communication of product counts with coaching team
- prepare breakfast items for bake including quiche, cinnamon rolls, muffins, etc
- prepare and bake bread items including loaves, buns, rolls, cookies, etc
- daily preparation of seasonal fresh fruit for pies and toppings
- clean all bake related machines, workstations, transit trays, and instruments too large for dishwasher
- responsible to properly label, organize and rotate bake ingredients in freeze and storage areas
- rotates bake inventory (merchandise and product supplies) to maintain freshness and quality, make products fresh daily
- receive orders, check invoices, and put deliveries away as needed
- prepare kitchen for the day including making sure everything is secure, lighting the oven, etc
- notify the coaches of any food quality issues, inconsistencies of product with recipes, low inventory, etc
- maintain a clean and sanitary bake area and station at all times
- comply with established weight and measures, health, sanitation, and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
- protect the brand through promoting and providing extraordinary service when interacting with team members and guests
- demonstrate dependable leadership qualities to work primarily unassisted, and is proactive to escalate matters as needed
- flexible to cross train in other functions for back of the house/kitchen areas
- must be available to work morning, afternoon, and evening shifts
- includes weekends and holidays
