The Cake Decorator role at Albertsons is a safety-sensitive position that requires dedication to excellent customer service and a passion for creating visually appealing and delicious bakery products. This role focuses on decorating cakes—such as wedding cakes—cookies, pastries, and other baked goods while assisting customers with special orders. The position requires hands-on work using freehand decorating techniques, decorating kits, as well as coloring icing. The Cake Decorator plays a vital role in upholding the company's bakery product quantity, quality, and decorating standards. In addition to decorating cakes, this role involves pulling bakery products, packaging, stocking, and maintaining product displays. Exceptional customer interaction skills are necessary as engaging in suggestive selling and positive customer relations are integral parts of the daily responsibilities.
This role demands meticulous attention to cleanliness, sanitation, and safety procedures, maintaining the bakery equipment and work area in accordance with company guidelines. Cake Decorators should follow proper packaging and labeling procedures and comply with state labeling requirements for packaged merchandise. Handling bakery duties such as receiving, cleaning, proofing, baking, slicing, and packaging requires both physical endurance and technical skill. The position requires substantial physical activity including frequent standing, walking, lifting up to approximately 55 pounds, bending, twisting, and operating bakery tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
Compensation for this role ranges from $17.23 to $20.90 per hour, depending on factors such as location, experience, and qualifications, as well as any applicable collective bargaining agreements. Benefits for associates in this position may include medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, sick pay accrued based on hours worked, paid time off or flexible time off, paid holidays (8-9 annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits including pension and/or 401k plans. Associates may also be eligible for a quarterly bonus based on performance and other criteria.

Job Requirements
- Ability to be friendly, courteous, tactful and maintain composure with customers and co-workers
- Ability to frequently reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects up to approximately 55 lbs
- Ability to stand for long periods, walk, move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination
- Exposure to baking procedure hazards, equipment and related work aids
- Ability to follow safety and sanitation procedures
- Must comply with company, division and store policies and applicable laws
- Must be able to perform all job duties safely and accurately
- Ability to handle working conditions including exposure to temperatures from -20 to 400 Fahrenheit
- Able to work in a temperature controlled store environment
Job Qualifications
- Good communication skills in writing, over the telephone and in person
- Legible handwriting and ability to read and follow directions
- Basic mathematics knowledge
- Ability to learn taste, content, perishability of products, safety, sanitation procedures and department policies
- Mental alertness for safe and accurate work completion
- Ability to operate bakery utensils and related equipment
Job Duties
