The Bakery Production Assistant role at Jimbo's is a critical position dedicated to providing customers with consistently high-quality baked goods prepared in a clean and safe environment. This role involves following deli recipes closely to produce a minimum of 15 bakery recipes per 7.5-hour shift, ensuring that products meet the store's standards for quality and presentation. The incumbent is responsible for the setup and maintenance of bakery cases, including those designated for flavors to go, ensuring cleanliness and full stock throughout the shift. A significant part of this role includes maintaining strict food handling standards to prevent cross-contamination and to guarantee food safety by proper rotation, labeling, and storage practices.

In addition to production duties, the Bakery Production Assistant supports deli counter staff by assisting with customer service as outlined in the Customer Service Standards. This cooperative environment requires proactive communication and collaboration with kitchen and counter staff. The role demands organizational skills to maintain a clean and well-stocked workspace and includes assisting with special orders as needed. Understanding the importance of allergen handling and complying with Health Department regulations are essential aspects of the role.

The Bakery Production Assistant must be physically able to work under varying conditions and temperatures, manage kitchen equipment safely including sharp utensils, and lift objects up to 50 lbs. Candidates are required to hold or to be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate within 10 days of employment, and prior experience in food service and customer service is preferred. Good math skills for recipe measurement, intermediate cutlery skills, and the ability to understand and extend recipes are important qualifications for success in this role.

Job Qualifications

  • ability to read and understand recipes, including extending recipes
  • ability to perform basic math for recipe measurements

Job Duties

  • Follow the deli recipes to produce consistent, high quality food items
  • production of at least 15 bakery recipes per every 7.5-hour shift including muffins, granolas, cookies, cakes and confections and mousses, not including the use of cookie dough from refrigerator
  • responsible for presentation and set-up of all bakery cases including flavors to go, keeping cases clean and full of fresh product throughout shift
  • maintain quality food handling standards by practicing proper food preparation, including proper handling of food to avoid cross contamination, proper cooling of hot foods, proper rotation, and ensuring all food items stored in walk-in are properly covered, labeled, and dated
  • maintain clean, sanitary, and well stocked work area that complies with the health department regulations
  • properly fill out daily production sheet from inventory sheet, and record waste
  • organize area for next shift, including restocking of baking ingredients from workstation such as flours, maple syrup, sweeteners, spices
  • assist in the production of special orders
  • preserve an open level of communication and cooperation with all kitchen and counter staff and provide counter assistance when necessary
  • proactively assist customers within the guidelines outlined in our customer service standards
