The position open at Northern Kentucky University is for a full-time Baker, an essential role within the university's food services team managed by Compass Group. This role is based at the university’s main address at 100 Nunn Drive, Highland Heights, KY 41099, and features a full-time schedule working Monday through Thursday from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm and Friday from 5:00 am to 1:30 pm. The pay rate for this role is a fixed $15.00 per hour. This is a hands-on position ideal for individuals with a passion for baking and food preparation, with prior baking experience preferred though not mandatory, as training is provided.
In this role, the baker will be responsible for preparing a variety of baked goods such as breads, pies, cakes, cookies, and other pastries following specific recipes and production standards. The job requires attention to detail in recipe adherence, equipment use, and maintaining quality and presentation standards. The baker will also assist in production planning to meet daily food production needs and ensure food safety and sanitation standards are strictly observed throughout the process.
The position demands strong organizational skills to maintain production records including waste tracking and inventory management, ensuring that supervisors are promptly informed when supplies run low. This role also involves maintaining cleanliness of the work area and equipment, interacting courteously with customers to address any service concerns, and working efficiently during peak production times without compromising quality or safety.

- Prior baking experience preferred
- ability to work full-time schedule including early morning hours and Fridays

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- prior baking experience preferred
- ability to follow established recipes and production standards
- knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices

- ability to maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the workspace
Job Duties
- Bake breads, pies, cakes, cookies and other pastries as necessary per the provided production and catering sheets
- assists in production planning to meet daily requirements
- ensures proper food preparation by utilizing approved recipes, following prescribed production standards and use of proper equipment
- assists with the completion of production records to include waste tracking, used/unused portions and product shortages
- informs supervisor when supplies are low
- ensures proper presentation, food quality, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures
- maintains sanitation and orderliness of all equipment, supplies and utensils within work area
- handles food items appropriately and with all safety regulations in mind during preparation and service
- cleans equipment and workstation thoroughly before leaving the area for other assignments
- keeps display equipment clean and free of debris
- interacts with customers and resolves customer complaints in a friendly and customer-service oriented manner
- relays relevant concerns from customers directly to supervisors
- consistently exhibits the ability to keep up with peak production and service calmly, accurately and efficiently
- checks to ensure that all food is presented, served and displayed per standards
- follows principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment, ensuring corporate and OSHA safety standards are followed
- completes shift work, as assigned, in a timely and thorough manner in accordance with department standards
- performs other duties as assigned
