The Baker position at the Coppin State University campus dining facility offers an excellent opportunity to join this reputable company in a vital food service role. The baker is an essential team member responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute directly to the dining experience of students, faculty, and staff. This role focuses on food preparation, specifically baking breads, pies, cakes, cookies, and other pastries, following approved recipes and production standards. The baker also plays a key role in maintaining high food quality, proper presentation, portion control, and serving temperatures to ensure customer satisfaction.

In addition to baking duties, the baker assists with production planning to meet daily requirements and helps track production records, including waste management and inventory monitoring. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation is critical in this role, as the baker is expected to keep all equipment, supplies, and utensils orderly and clean, and to thoroughly clean workstations and display equipment before transitioning to other assignments. This role demands excellent customer service skills to provide a welcoming experience and strong communication and teamwork abilities to operate efficiently within a fast-paced environment. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items, and work in hot, humid conditions. Job Requirements

  • Baking experience in a high-volume food service environment preferred
  • able to read documents and written instructions to understand sanitation requirements, safety rules, equipment operation and maintenance, policies, and standard operating procedures
  • able to work flexible shifts and schedules including weekends and holidays
  • stand for extended periods of time and navigate occasional wet floor conditions
  • lift and carry up to 50 lbs (food product cases, bulk ingredients, kitchen equipment)
  • work in a hot, humid, and fast-paced environment
  • bend, stoop, and reach frequently
  • operate bakery and kitchen equipment safely

Job Duties

  • Bake breads, pies, cakes, cookies and other pastries as necessary per the provided production and catering sheets
  • assist in production planning to meet daily requirements
  • ensure proper food preparation by utilizing approved recipes, following prescribed production standards and use of proper equipment
  • assist with the completion of production records to include waste tracking, used/unused portions and product shortages
  • inform supervisor when supplies are low
  • ensure proper presentation, food quality, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures
  • maintain sanitation and orderliness of all equipment, supplies and utensils within work area
  • clean equipment and workstation thoroughly before leaving the area for other assignments
  • keep display equipment clean and free of debris
  • perform other duties as assigned
