The role of a Cafe Team Member at Grand Central Bakery is integral to maintaining the high standards and lively spirit of its cafes. This part-time, non-exempt position offers a competitive rate of $21.30 per hour plus tips, with tips averaging between $7.00 to $9.00 per hour. The position involves working various shifts including Retail Open, Mid-Shift, and Retail Close, with a flexible schedule required, including weekends. The Cafe Team Member plays a crucial role in providing excellent customer service, preparing and serving food and beverages that meet the bakery's exacting standards, and maintaining a clean and welcoming cafe environment. Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English required
  • Maintains a valid Food Handler's Card at all times and follows health department guidelines at all times
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Basic math skills required
  • Must display professionalism and personality with customers
  • Stays thoughtfully busy at all times, regardless of customer flow
  • Experience in food service or cafe environment preferred
  • Proficient in using point-of-sale systems and coffee equipment
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.

Job Duties

  • Proficient on point-of-sale system
  • Serves bread and pastry to customers while ensuring both meet GCB specs
  • Makes and serves all sandwiches according to GCB specs including during a rush
  • Makes and serves all coffee and espresso drinks according to GCB specs including during a rush, and is proficient at latte art
  • Displays product knowledge of all items on our menus
  • Knows and regularly works the duties of multiple shifts, including Retail Open, Retail Close, and Mid/Swing shifts
  • Works in a way that maintains a clean cafe environment including bussing, washing dishes, and executing all necessary cafe cleaning tasks
  • Has a 'pitches in' mentality, can be seen volunteering with duties or helping others
  • Adheres to proper cash handling procedures and standards with a high level of accuracy
  • Uses checklists and training documents to become competent and proficient with the cafe systems
  • Knows and acts in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Grand Central Bakery in all parts of their job
  • Works collaboratively with a team
  • Communicates respectfully and professionally with teammates
  • Delivers excellent customer service - follows the 3 steps to great service at all times
  • Maintains competencies and demonstrate continuous application of these skills throughout the period of employment
