Job Description

The Village is currently seeking an experienced Bakery Chef to join its dynamic culinary team. This is a part-time position available on weekends, paying between $19.55 and $20.00 per hour, depending on the candidate's experience. The role requires a dedicated professional with at least one year of experience baking from scratch in a busy kitchen environment, though relevant education may substitute required experience. The Bakery Chef will be integral in preparing appetizing baked goods such as rolls, cakes, cookies, and desserts that cater to both regular and special dietary needs of residents and staff, strictly adhering to standardized recipes. Creativity and skill in introducing new menu items and decorative techniques are vital to this role.
In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible not only for the preparation of baked goods but also for managing assistants and ensuring all food safety and sanitation standards are upheld. They will handle inventory control by following first-in, first-out (FIFO) protocols for food storage and labeling, ensuring efficient food production schedules are met, and participate in special events catering. The Bakery Chef works closely with the Food Service Director and Chef to maintain supply levels and contribute to the department’s mission of superb customer satisfaction. This position also offers a strong sense of purpose by contributing directly to the wellbeing and satisfaction of senior residents, demonstrating that culinary art is a core part of the vibrant lifestyle at The Village.

Job Requirements
- At least one year of experience baking from scratch in a high-volume kitchen
- Ability to work part-time weekends
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle kitchen equipment
- Ability to follow standardized recipes and food production schedules
- Effective communication skills
- Willingness to comply with The Village's mission and values
- Fully vaccinated preferred
Job Qualifications
- At least one year experience baking from scratch in a busy kitchen
- Education may be substituted for experience
- Experience as a line cook or prep cook preferred
- Knowledge of standardized recipe preparation
- Ability to manage and delegate tasks to assistants
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
- Skilled in baking and decorating techniques
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Job Duties
- Prepares baked goods and desserts according to standardized recipes and menu requirements
- Calculates quantities required for the number of persons to be served
- Delegates responsibilities to cook assistants
- Assists in cleaning and maintaining work area in a safe and sanitary manner
- Ensures correct food storage, labeling, and dating following FIFO methods
- Meets food production schedules according to the menu
- Prepares baked goods and desserts for banquets and special functions
- Notifies Food Service Director and/or Chef of low supply items
- Performs duties aligned with The Village's mission and Food Service motto
- Completes other related duties and special projects as assigned
