Job Description

The Village is currently seeking an experienced bakery chef to join its culinary team. The role is part-time, functioning primarily on weekend shifts, with an hourly wage ranging from $19.55 to $20.00 depending on experience. This position requires at least one year of experience baking from scratch in a busy kitchen environment, alongside a creative flair for introducing new menu items and adept decorating skills. Educational credentials may substitute experience if applicable.
The bakery chef's primary responsibilities include preparing a variety of baked goods and desserts according to standardized recipes, accommodating regular and special diets, and contributing to special functions and banquets. The candidate will take charge of calculating quantities needed, supervising cook assistants, adhering to food safety and hygiene protocols including proper storage using FIFO methods, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment. Effective communication with the Food Service Director and Chef regarding inventory is essential.
Additionally, the bakery chef is expected to uphold The Village’s mission statement and Food Service Department’s motto, "Customer Satisfaction is My Responsibility," ensuring every baked item contributes positively to the resident and employee dining experience. Beyond daily operations, the role may also involve other duties, assignments, or special projects aligned with the organization’s dietary services.

Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- minimum one year baking experience or relevant education
- creativity in baking and decoration
- strong organizational skills
- ability to manage assistants
- knowledge of food safety and sanitation protocols
- willing to work part-time weekends
