Job Description
Hy-Vee is a well-established grocery store chain known for its commitment to exceptional customer service, quality products, and a strong community presence. At Hy-Vee, the culture revolves around teamwork and a dedication to providing customers with "a helpful smile in every aisle." The company fosters an inclusive and supportive work environment where employees feel valued and empowered to contribute positively to both the customer experience and to each other's success. The bakery department at Hy-Vee exemplifies these values by offering fresh, high-quality baked goods that delight customers while supporting the store’s mission to maintain a trusted and enjoyable shopping atmosphere.
The Baker role within Hy-Vee's Bakery Department is a vital position responsible for crafting delicious bakery products that meet customer demand and maintain display shelves' consistent replenishment. This non-exempt position ensures the bakery runs smoothly by managing production schedules, quality control, and customer interactions. Bakers at Hy-Vee are expected to embody a partnership approach, demonstrating a growth mindset and results-oriented behavior while consistently providing friendly, professional service to customers and team members alike.
Bakers work under the oversight of the Bakery Department Manager and collaborate closely with other store leadership such as the District Store Director, Store Manager, and Assistant Managers in Perishables and Store Operations. This role also includes leadership responsibilities as the Baker may act as a lead for other bakery clerks including apprentices, wrappers, and fryers. The position requires handling a variety of tasks ranging from preparing and baking products to managing product freshness and inventory within bakery displays.
In addition to technical baking duties, the Baker must remain vigilant about food safety and sanitation standards while upholding company policies related to personal hygiene and professional appearance. The physical demands of the job include the ability to exert considerable force to move bakery items and frequent activities such as stooping, walking, and repetitive motions in a fast-paced environment exposed to flour, noise, and temperature extremes.
This position is ideal for individuals who have a high school education or equivalent, combined with 6 months to one year of similar bakery or related food preparation experience. The hourly starting wage ranges from $17.00 to $21.25, commensurate with experience, and the employment offer is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. For those passionate about baking and delivering excellent customer service in a dynamic retail setting, Hy-Vee offers a rewarding career path with opportunities for growth and development.
If you are ready to join a company where your skills and smile can make a difference every day, Hy-Vee invites you to apply for the Baker position and become part of a team that truly values its people and customers.
