This job opportunity is with a bakery operation that specializes in scratch baking and producing a variety of fresh bakery products. The role being offered is a bakery production position that requires an individual with a keen interest and experience in baking. Working under general supervision, the bakery staff member will perform multiple baking duties including the preparation of breads, rolls, muffins, cookies, pies, cakes, biscuits, and various pastries starting from scratch. The successful candidate will need to follow established recipes and ingredient standards at batch scale, ensuring all products meet the company’s high-quality expectations. They will be responsible for producing bakery goods efficiently by carefully managing production schedules and supplies, minimizing overproduction or waste.

The position has a set schedule, working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, providing a stable weekly routine. This role demands both technical baking skills and strong organizational abilities to plan production, manage orders, and maintain quality controls with great attention to detail. Additional responsibilities include preparing baked goods for special dietary requests, assisting customers by phone with orders, and verifying the quality of received goods according to company standards.

Operationally, this role involves the use of multiple specialized bakery machines and equipment such as mixers, ovens, scales, sheeters, dough dividers, proofers, and bread slicers. Maintenance of a clean and safe bakery environment is critical, and the candidate will be expected to uphold health regulations and report equipment problems promptly.

The ideal candidate will hold a high school diploma or equivalent, possess at least two years of bakery experience, and preferably have a culinary degree. Key skills include knowledge applicable to the bakery industry, interpersonal abilities, computer literacy, and the capacity to read profit and loss statements. The position requires someone who can work independently and as part of a team, showing initiative and collaboration.

Physical requirements for this job include the ability to perform bending, grasping, lifting of minimum 60 pounds, standing for extended periods, walking, pushing, pulling, and other essential physical activities necessary to operate bakery equipment and maintain production flow. Effective verbal and written communication skills, good vision, hearing, and scheduling abilities are also required.

Job Duties

  • Prepares breads, rolls, muffins, cookies, pies, cakes, biscuits, and other pastries, including icings and frostings according to established recipes and ingredient standards at batch scale
  • Prepares all dough and scratch baking mixtures following established company procedures and recipes
  • Prepares baked goods for special diets as requested
  • Ensures that finished product meets our high-quality standards
  • Follows proper labeling and signage requirements for company's natural food standards
  • Reviews production schedules to determine quantity and variety of products to bake and assembles supplies and equipment needed for daily baking activities
  • Manages and produces appropriate quantities to ensure we're not over or under producing products
  • Develops new products
  • Takes bakery orders from customers by phone and completes order forms properly
  • Assists in verifying received goods
  • checks for quality, count and condition
  • Stores and rotates all ingredients or merchandise following company policy and product code dates
  • Notifies manager of any maintenance or equipment problems
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment to ensure health and OSHA requirements are met
  • Performs other duties as assigned
