Job Description
SodexoMagic is a dynamic joint venture between the NBA Hall of Famer, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, and SodexoMagic, Inc. This certified minority-owned company specializes in delivering food, facilities management, and integrated services to a diverse range of clients including corporations, healthcare facilities, K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and aviation lounges. SodexoMagic is committed to fostering an inclusive work environment where employees are treated with fairness and respect, encouraged to be themselves, and empowered to contribute their ideas. The company prioritizes culture and belonging as core values, ensuring that every team member feels valued and supported. SodexoMagic also offers equal employment opportunities to all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, gender identity, pregnancy, disability, sexual orientation, military or protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
The Baker position at SodexoMagic located at the University of Illinois Chicago campus is a full-time role offering a pay of $19.30 per hour. This position requires flexible availability as shifts and work hours vary. The role focuses on preparing a wide range of baked goods—from breads and rolls to cakes and pastries—while adhering strictly to Sodexo’s culinary standards for quality, taste, and presentation. Bakers are expected to follow daily production schedules and recipes meticulously, ensuring that each item meets the highest standards. Responsibilities include weighing and measuring ingredients accurately, mixing doughs and batters either by hand or with a mixer, shaping dough, and carefully regulating oven temperatures and baking times.
In addition to baking duties, the baker is responsible for setting up and maintaining the bake shop area, including storage, rotation, labeling, and cleanliness. Attention to detail is essential, especially in accommodating special requests and ensuring quality control, so that only top-quality baked products leave the kitchen. The role demands physical endurance, including significant walking or mobility throughout each shift, standing for extended periods (often exceeding eight hours), and some amount of lifting and moving heavy items (up to 50 pounds occasionally). This role is ideal for those who have at least a high school diploma or GED and possess some related experience or a strong interest in baking. Experience in a specialized bakery or pastry role is preferred but not mandatory.
SodexoMagic supports its employees through a flexible and supportive work environment, providing a healthy work-life balance to help employees be present for life’s important moments. The company emphasizes ongoing training, professional development, and advancement opportunities, helping team members turn their jobs into rewarding careers. Employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid time off, holidays, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, 401k retirement plans, discount programs, and more. Site-specific benefits may vary, with some locations offering free meals during shifts, uniforms, safety shoes, transportation support, or parking benefits.
Overall, this position as a Baker at SodexoMagic on the University of Illinois Chicago campus is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about baking and delivering quality culinary products in a supportive and culturally inclusive environment that values growth and community impact.
