The Baker position at Perkins involves playing a vital role in food preparation and service in line with company policies, procedures, programs, and standards. Bakers are responsible for preparing various bakery items such as pies, muffins, cookies, quiche, meatloaf, and ribs by regulating oven temperatures and measuring ingredients carefully. They ensure food is cooked and served to the highest quality while maintaining food safety standards to reduce risks of foodborne illnesses. The role also entails maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and managing time effectively, sometimes taking on additional tasks during peak times like working the grill line or steam kettles. The ideal candidate will demonstrate good personal hygiene, be well-groomed, and wear the appropriate uniform. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work irregular hours under heavy stress and pressure during peak times
  • High level of mobility and flexibility
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Good coordination and manual dexterity
  • Willingness to work in a hot, steamy, smoky, and odorous kitchen environment
  • Ability to adhere to sanitation and safety standards

Job Qualifications

  • Basic skills in sanitation, safety, and customer service gained through in-house training
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Experience working in a kitchen or food preparation environment preferred
  • Ability to follow recipes and food safety guidelines
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Job Duties

  • Report to work well-groomed in clean and proper uniform and practice good personal hygiene
  • Make and prepare all food items baked in the oven including pies, muffins, cookies, quiche, meatloaf and ribs
  • Adjust controls to regulate temperature of ovens
  • Monitor and oversee food temperatures during hot and cold handling to reduce risk factors for foodborne illness
  • Measure ingredients for bakery goods, mix by hand or with electric mixer, shape dough into loaves or desired shapes and place on greased sheets or floured pans
  • Prepare meats or baked foods according to recipe using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Observe and test foods by tasting, smelling, and piercing to determine doneness
  • Serve high quality food ensuring items are complete, prepared as required and attractive in appearance
  • Work on steam kettles and grill line during peak business periods
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen stations and work areas and manage time effectively
