Job Description

Commonplace Coffee is a dedicated coffee company located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, focused on fostering and building community through the craft of coffee with care. They engage deeply with their customers and the community by not only serving exceptional coffee but also by offering delicious, hearty, and creative food options made from high-quality, regionally sourced ingredients. The establishment prides itself on maintaining high standards in both the products they serve and the experiences they create, blending enthusiasm for craft coffee with a community-driven approach. The bakery and production kitchen at Commonplace Coffee play a fundamental role in this mission by providing fresh, quality baked goods and food items that complement their coffee offerings and cater to both retail guests and wholesale clients.

The bakers and prep staff at Commonplace Coffee are crucial in sustaining the company’s commitment to quality and creativity. This role involves producing baked items following recipes and adjusting ingredient volumes to fulfill production requirements. Bakers review orders and bake goods to ensure that both volume and quality standards are consistently met. They also manage bakery ingredient preparation and maintain cleanliness and sanitation to comply with health and safety standards. Additionally, bakers must monitor oven temperatures, organize and label finished products for assembly and delivery, and frequently test baked goods to ensure they meet the company’s quality standards. Collaboration and communication with team members and management are key to effectively solve problems and support a positive working environment.

This position is available on a full-time or part-time basis, with the potential for part-time roles to expand into full-time employment. Candidates are expected to have experience in commercial kitchens or bakeries, reinforcing the skill set necessary for handling a dynamic production environment. Personal transportation is required due to the location in Pittsburgh. The job involves physical demands such as standing for prolonged periods, repetitive hand motions, and occasionally lifting weights up to 50 pounds. The work environment includes exposure to various temperatures and noise levels and requires workers to both collaborate closely in focused spaces and operate independently when necessary. This role reports to the Kitchen Manager and offers additional benefits including paid time off, medical, dental and vision coverage with employer contribution, retirement savings options, and other valuable perks. Overall, this role offers an excellent opportunity to join a vibrant community-centered company where food artisanship and quality are highly valued, and the work culture emphasizes growth, responsibility, and teamwork.
