The Baker role at Giant Eagle is an integral part of the company’s bakery team, responsible for producing fresh, high-quality baked goods that meet the company’s exacting standards for taste and appearance. As a Bakery Team Member, the role involves more than just baking; it includes interacting with customers to understand their needs, offering knowledgeable suggestions, and providing excellent customer service. The position requires hands-on preparation, baking, and packaging of various products, using established scratch recipes and procedures to ensure consistency and quality in every item.

This role is designed for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and have a passion for baking and food preparation. The Baker will work closely with other team members to maintain cleanliness, safety, and sanitation standards within the bakery department, ensuring products are fresh and meet food safety regulations. Responsibilities include preparing bench work, baking in accordance with recipe specifications, managing the proofing and frying processes, rotating products to maintain freshness, and accurately recording special orders to delight customers.

The ideal candidate should have completed a job-specific skills assessment with satisfactory results and have at least 6 to 12 months of experience, preferably in a bakery or related food production environment. Participation or completion of the Giant Eagle Apprenticeship program is a strong advantage. While a high school diploma is not required, candidates must be at least 18 years of age and capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. The role demands attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and a commitment to safety and sanitation guidelines.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Perform bench work according to established scratch procedures when necessary
  • Prepare product and form product to specifications as required according to scratch recipes
  • Bake prepared product using appropriate time and temperature as specified by recipe
  • Prepare Bakery products according to established recipes which include scratch recipes
  • Properly insert products into proof box, set controls, and close door to ensure proper size and shape of product
  • Prepare and fry donuts according to established procedures
  • Insert products into and retrieve products from the freezer to preserve freshness
  • Kindly answer questions and resolve problems to ensure guest requirements are met
