The Baker position at Au Bon Pain is integral to the café’s daily operations, focused on producing outstanding baked products that maintain the company’s standards for quality, taste, and appearance. Bakers at Au Bon Pain start their shifts in the early morning hours, typically between 3:00 am and 4:00 am, allowing the café to greet guests with fresh baked pastries and breads each day. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about baking, detail-oriented, and enjoys working in a team environment where speed, cleanliness, and customer service quality are highly valued.
In this role, the Baker is expected to measure and mix ingredients accurately following precise café standards, manage baking schedules collaboratively with the management team, and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Prioritizing hospitality, Bakers also contribute to the overall café ambience by displaying products attractively and communicating respectfully and warmly with guests and team members. They play a key part in ensuring food safety and sanitation while also handling inventory preparations such as receiving and storing baking supplies.
The position is non-exempt and hourly, requiring physical endurance to stand for long periods and handle lifting of items up to 25 pounds. Additionally, Bakers may provide training for new team members and assist with other café duties such as setting up and restocking areas like coffee, tea, oatmeal, and soup stations as needed. - Must be 18 years or older
- Ability to maintain standing for extended periods up to 6 hours

Job Duties
- Measure and mix ingredients to produce bakery products including bread and pastries using precise café standards
- Ensure correct quantities of baked goods are produced daily and coordinate with management on production schedules
- Maintain baking environment by monitoring oven temperature, baking times, and quality presentation
- Visually merchandise and display all products attractively
- Receive and store inventory, proof and prepare items for baking to ensure consistent quality
- Keep work area clean, organized, and properly sanitized
- Demonstrate hospitality, respect, and friendly attitude towards guests and team members
- Resolve problems promptly and inform management about issues
- Provide on-the-job training for new bakers as needed
- Perform prep and utility duties or backup tasks when required
- Assist in café setup, refill, and maintenance of coffee, tea, oatmeal, and soup areas
- Other related responsibilities as assigned
