Job Description

Kraft Heinz, a globally recognized leader in the food and beverage industry, operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Established originally as Ashby Soups in the mid-1980s by Jamie and Shannon Ashby and their mother, the company has a rich heritage of creating quality soups based on cherished family recipes. Over time, the company evolved through name changes and acquisitions, becoming Quality Chef Foods in the 1990s and subsequently joining the Kraft Heinz family following Heinz's acquisition in the mid-2000s. The ultimate merger of Kraft and Heinz in 2015 cemented its position as a powerhouse in the U.S. food service market.

The Cedar Rapids plant operates on a three-shift schedule, employing approximately 200 hourly staff including both temporary and full-time associates. This non-unionized facility specializes in the production of frozen soups, macaroni and cheese, and other related food products. It utilizes four bag soup lines, a tub line, 18 kettles, five filling lines, and four packaging lines to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality products under more than 50 recognizable household brands.

The plant is committed to food safety, quality control, and operational efficiency, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and employee development. The surrounding community of Cedar Rapids offers an enriching cultural corridor that includes unique attractions, educational opportunities, a low crime rate, and a healthy work-life balance, making it not only a great place to work but also to live and play.

The Bag Cook position on the 2nd Shift (1:30 pm to 10:00 pm) at Kraft Heinz Cedar Rapids is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about food production and quality. This role is vital to the manufacturing process with responsibilities centered around the preparation and cooking of food products according to precise recipes. It involves skills such as verifying soup viscosity, sanitizing kettles, processing daily production schedules, and cooperating with various departments, including prep and quality assurance teams.

A Bag Cook is expected to be a highly skilled operator, adaptable to fluctuating daily production needs, and proficient in combining ingredients safely and accurately to maintain the highest standards of product integrity. The role requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to perform under pressure in a working environment that experiences temperature extremes. The individual must also adhere strictly to food safety and workplace safety procedures, contributing to the overall safety culture of the facility.

The compensation for this role begins at $24.52 per hour with the advantage of accrual of paid time off from the start. Additionally, employees have access to a comprehensive array of benefits including medical, dental, vision coverage, pet insurance, employee assistance programs, and health reimbursement or savings accounts. The company encourages continuous improvement, accountability, and mutual respect, fostering a collaborative and supportive workplace.

Joining Kraft Heinz Cedar Rapids as a Bag Cook offers the chance to become part of a globally respected company that values quality and innovation in food manufacturing.
