Job Description

Kraft Heinz, one of the most iconic names in the food manufacturing industry, operates a significant production facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This plant is a non-union facility with approximately 200 hourly staff members, including both full-time and temporary associates. The Cedar Rapids facility operates on a 3-shift schedule and specializes exclusively in food service products. It boasts four soup bagging lines, a tub line, 18 kettles, five filling lines, and four packaging lines, producing popular frozen soups and macaroni and cheese products. The establishment's rich history dates back to the mid-1980s when it began as Ashby Soups, a family-oriented business focused on quality soup recipes. Over the decades, it evolved to Quality Chef Foods in the 1990s and was later acquired by Heinz in the mid-2000s. Following the merger of Kraft and Heinz in 2015, the Cedar Rapids plant became an integral part of Kraft Heinz, known today for its commitment to quality and excellence in food production.

The role of Bag Cook on the first shift at Kraft Heinz in Cedar Rapids is a critical hands-on position that demands a highly skilled operator familiar with the intricacies of food production in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The shift runs from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., offering candidates a valuable opportunity to contribute to a leading brand that holds a portfolio of over 50 household-name products across the United States. This position requires not only technical proficiency in safely combining and preparing ingredients according to strict recipes but also flexibility to work in various roles as operational needs arise. The Bag Cook will be expected to check the viscosity of soups, wash and sanitize production kettles after each use, and ensure that each batch meets stringent quality and safety standards. Furthermore, the role involves collaborating closely with prep departments, accurately filling out inspections and process paperwork, and adhering to all Food Safety Policies as well as Safety Procedures.

Candidates must be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working under physical and environmental stresses, including exposure to both hot and cold temperatures. Above all, the Bag Cook must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork, embodying the company values such as trust, respect, and accountability. Kraft Heinz provides a supportive work environment in a vibrant city like Cedar Rapids, known for its cultural diversity, low crime rates, excellent schools, and a variety of recreational opportunities. The company takes pride in fostering employee wellbeing through comprehensive benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision coverage, and additional perks such as pet insurance and employee assistance programs. With a competitive pay rate of $23.58 per hour and an attractive bonus plan, this role is ideal for individuals looking to build a rewarding career in the food production industry while making a tangible impact on the quality of beloved food products.
