Job Description
Core-Mark is a leading wholesaler and distributor specializing in fresh and broadline solutions tailored for the convenience retail industry. Established as the largest and most comprehensive marketer of consumer goods in North America, Core-Mark provides a full spectrum of products, programs, and services to convenience store operators across the United States and Canada. The company has cultivated a strong reputation for empowering its customers, employees, and communities, making it a trusted partner in the food supply chain. Core-Mark fosters a safe, inclusive working environment characterized by rewards, recognition, and respect, ensuring that employees thrive both personally and professionally. The company is also committed to accommodating people with disabilities throughout the application and interview process, demonstrating its dedication to inclusivity and equal opportunity employment.
The role of a Driver, Dedicated Backhaul at Core-Mark is a critical position within the company’s logistics and supply chain operations. This full-time, day-shift position offers competitive compensation starting at $25 per hour with additional safety bonus potential. Scheduled Monday through Friday with no weekend shifts, it provides a work-life balance highly valued in the industry. Drivers in this role are responsible for operating tractor-trailers (day cabs or sleepers), tandem trailers, and straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes to efficiently pick up and deliver food and non-food products. This requires strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations to ensure safety and compliance.
The backhaul driver is not only crucial for physical transportation but also serves as the face of Core-Mark, cultivating lasting relationships with customers through professional interaction and timely service. Their duties include driving assigned routes to supplier/vendor and Core-Mark warehouse locations, delivering loads back for inventory processing, and meticulously inspecting loads and paperwork to verify product counts and condition quality. Throughout their day, these drivers maintain communication with supervisors to relay updates on schedules, load issues, or other operational concerns. In addition to driving responsibilities, the job entails hand-lifting and operating equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move and stack product cases, which typically weigh between 10 to 90 pounds depending on the location.
This position offers opportunities for growth as part of a company deeply embedded in America’s food distribution network, providing essential work that supports the nation’s food supply chain. Beyond the monetary benefits, Core-Mark offers a comprehensive package that includes day one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off, among others. The safe and collaborative work environment, along with the culture of recognition and respect, makes Core-Mark’s Driver, Dedicated Backhaul role a fulfilling and stable career path. Candidates interested in joining a vibrant team that plays a pivotal role in keeping America supplied with necessary products will find this opportunity rewarding and impactful.
