Job Description

The Kalispel Tribe of Indians operates as a dynamic and culturally rich establishment committed to serving its community while upholding its traditions and values. Known for providing various services, including food and beverage operations, the Tribe emphasizes quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction in all its endeavors. This organization fosters an inclusive work environment that respects the customs and the heritage of the indigenous community while simultaneously promoting professional excellence and operational efficiency.

The role being offered is that of a Cook, specifically designed to prepare, season, and cook a variety of food items such as soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, specialty dishes, and other foodstuffs intended for consumption in the Tribe's eating establishments. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring superior food quality, preparation, presentation, and guest service. The Cook is expected to comply with all internal control policies and procedures set by the Kalispel Tribe of Indians, as well as health and safety regulations including those outlined by the FDA and HACCP standards.

The successful candidate will demonstrate proficient cooking skills across various methods to prepare foods consistently according to established recipes and quality guidelines. Assisting the Sous Chef in specialty dish preparation is also part of the job, alongside managing food rotation to maintain freshness. Quality control is a daily routine, assessing food before, during, and after cooking to maintain hygiene and safety standards. This role requires flexibility as the Cook must be available to work variable hours depending on business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Beyond culinary responsibilities, the position demands a commitment to professional conduct and adherence to company policies, including background checks and drug testing. There are no supervisory duties related to this role, indicating a focus on individual contribution within a team environment. Physical demands are significant, with requirements including lifting heavy objects, constant movement, and the ability to perform repetitive motions essential for food preparation tasks.

The work environment consists primarily of indoor kitchen conditions, with occasional exposure to tobacco smoke, mechanical parts, and varying humidity and temperature conditions. The Kalispel Tribe of Indians is dedicated to equal employment opportunity, with a specific hiring preference policy that prioritizes tribal members and affiliates, reflecting the organization's commitment to supporting its community.

This Cook position not only suits individuals passionate about culinary arts and eager to contribute to a culturally meaningful organization but also those who thrive in fast-paced, standards-driven environments. It is structured as an at-will employment opportunity, offering a stable and supportive workplace where employees can grow and collaborate while serving up excellent food with integrity and care.
