Job Description
The Kalispel Tribe of Indians is a respected cultural and governmental entity dedicated to the self-sufficiency and welfare of its community and members. Known for upholding strong traditions while fostering economic growth, the Kalispel Tribe operates various enterprises and programs that serve to enrich the lives of Tribal members as well as the broader public. Among these endeavors, their food service operations are a pivotal part of the community interaction and economic activity they support. The tribe emphasizes adherence to its Core Values and Mission Statement, which guide all employees to maintain high standards of performance and integrity within their roles.
The role being offered is that of a Cook, an essential position within the food service operation that demands both culinary skill and commitment to quality and safety standards. The Cook is responsible for preparing, producing, and displaying a variety of food items within a designated area during scheduled shifts. This position ensures food meets specific quality standards and that superior guest service is consistently provided. The Cook will work closely under the supervision of the Sous Chef and other managerial staff, helping to prepare specialty dishes and maintain food safety compliance as per FDA and HACCP guidelines. This includes rotating food products daily, conducting quality control checks, and continually seeking ways to improve kitchen operations.
In addition to culinary duties, the Cook plays a supervisory role, overseeing daily food service operations and ensuring all staff adhere to the quality and consistency standards particularly set by the National Quality Review Council (NQRC). This involves holding employees accountable and reporting any operational issues for prompt resolution. The role requires the ability to work under pressure, manage multiple cooking methods, and utilize computer literacy skills, including proficiency with Microsoft programs and other software relevant to food service management.
Employment with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians is subject to compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures unique to the Tribal organization. The position also demands flexibility in work hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary to meet business needs. The employment is at-will, contingent on background investigation outcomes, drug testing, and other regulatory requirements such as obtaining a Tribal Work Permit and a Washington State Food Handler Permit shortly after hire. Hepatitis A and B vaccinations are mandatory for the role to ensure health and safety.
The Kalispel Tribe prioritizes applicants who are Tribal members, spouses of members, or enrolled members of other Indian Tribes, following a specific hiring preference. However, the opportunity is open and inclusive, reflective of the Tribe’s equal opportunity employer status. The Cook role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift heavy objects and endure varied environmental conditions, including exposure to temperature fluctuations, noise, and potential airborne particles. The work environment is designed to be safe and supportive, with reasonable accommodations offered for individuals with disabilities. This comprehensive position not only offers a chance to develop culinary expertise but also to contribute meaningfully to a culturally rich and dynamic community organization committed to excellence and tradition.
