Job Description

McAlister's Deli is a well-established franchise restaurant known for its welcoming atmosphere, quality food, and exceptional customer service. As part of a growing national brand, our franchised location upholds the high standards set by McAlister's Deli, serving fresh, made-to-order sandwiches, salads, and a variety of other deli classics in a casual dining setting. We are currently seeking motivated and dependable individuals for various Back of House positions. These roles play a critical part in the daily operations of the kitchen and overall restaurant functionality. The Back of House team includes several distinct roles: Dishwasher, Line Cook, and Prep Cook. Each position has its own specific duties and responsibilities but all contribute directly to delivering a seamless service experience to our guests. The Dishwasher ensures the constant availability of clean dishes, utensils, pots, and pans, keeps kitchen areas organized and sanitized, restocks items for upcoming shifts, and assists with waste management protocols and general cleanliness. Attention to detail and adherence to safety and sanitation policies are paramount. This role supports the kitchen team by creating a clean and safe environment.

Our Line Cook is responsible for managing food preparation areas, cooking food orders accurately and in a timely manner, maintaining sanitation and safety standards, and collaborating with the team to ensure quality and consistency. Line Cooks play an essential role in the kitchen by preparing dishes that meet McAlister's Deli's quality standards, handling multiple tasks, and supporting the kitchen flow.

The Prep Cook focuses on preparing ingredients and foods for cooking, following recipes and portion guidelines to ensure consistency, maintaining clean work areas, and performing light cleaning duties such as dishwashing. This position requires careful attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately to contribute to the kitchen's efficiency.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Capability to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must comply with all safety and sanitation policies
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Prior experience in back of house or similar roles preferred but not required

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in a food service or restaurant environment is a plus
  • Ability to work in fast-paced and physically demanding environments
  • Strong team player with good communication skills
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards is desirable
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
  • Basic math skills for measuring and portioning
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Ensures the availability of clean dishes by washing dishes, pots, pans, and flatware
  • Prepares dish area and kitchen for next shift by cleaning and restocking
  • Unloads and stores deliveries as needed
  • Sweeps and mops floors, especially in the event that items are broken or spilled
  • Takes out the trash and rinses garbage cans
  • Protects establishment and guests by adhering to sanitation and safety policies
  • Other duties as requested by manager
  • Maintains food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils
  • Manages sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
  • Reads food orders and/or receives verbal instructions required and prepares orders quickly and accurately
  • Cleans and restocks station at the beginning and end of each shift, preps additional items as necessary
  • Ensures prepared food meets quality and quantity requirements
  • Prepares foods for cooking based on prep lists and manager directions
  • Prepares food of consistent quality with recipe cards and production and portion standards
  • Cleans and sanitizes station at beginning and end of shift which may include light dishwashing
