The role of the Azure Cloud Engineer at Fisher Investments is a pivotal position within the IT infrastructure team, focusing on the design, deployment, and maintenance of scalable and secure cloud solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform. This role serves as a consultant and contributor to enhancing and streamlining IT policies, procedures, tools, and security measures. The Azure Cloud Engineer will engage in research and Proof of Concept initiatives for emerging technologies, delivering recommendations aimed at increasing operational efficiency and service quality.

This position requires a deep technical understanding of cloud infrastructure, specifically Azure, with a strong emphasis on automation, security compliance, and infrastructure as code. The engineer will be responsible for maintaining the operational cloud environment, deploying infrastructure, and ensuring that production systems run securely and efficiently using automation tools. The role also involves close collaboration with Infrastructure Engineering and other cloud team members, application owners, and business stakeholders to ensure all deployments adhere to corporate standards and security protocols.

Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and maintaining scalable Azure cloud infrastructure, troubleshooting cloud performance issues, designing automation tooling to enhance operational tasks, deploying resources enterprise-wide using code, and providing technical support for cloud-related challenges. Additional duties cover security audits, implementing CI/CD pipelines, participating in peer code reviews, and maintaining active logging and monitoring for security compliance. The engineer will also monitor cloud resource usage to identify risks and optimization opportunities while providing 24/7 on-call support when needed.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience deploying resources and managing infrastructure in an IT environment
  • 5+ years of experience with Azure cloud infrastructure and infrastructure as code deployments
  • Proficient with Terraform, GitHub, GitHub Actions, and Azure CLI
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes
  • Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-based AI platforms
  • Knowledge of security controls, compliance and encryption
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals and server environments
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell
  • Prior use of tools like Jira, Confluence or ServiceNow
  • Preferred knowledge of Octopus Deploy and Ansible

Job Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience deploying resources and managing infrastructure through both manual and automated pipelines in an IT infrastructure and operational environment
  • 5+ years of experience with maintaining resources in cross platform environments
  • 5+ years of experience with Azure cloud infrastructure deployments using infrastructure as code
  • 5+ years of experience building, deploying and managing public cloud IaaS and PaaS services
  • 5+ years of experience deploying resources using Terraform
  • 4+ years of experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions
  • 4+ years of experience building automated cloud infrastructure across multiple production and non-production environments
  • 4+ years of experience scripting and automating builds, workflows, tasks and other integration aspects
  • 4+ years of experience with Azure CLI
  • 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines
  • 3+ years of experience with YAML/YML for GitHub actions
  • 3+ years of experience troubleshooting in an Azure Cloud environment
  • 3+ years of experience designing and managing cloud solutions
  • 1+ year hands on experience deploying, operating, and maintaining Kubernetes-based platforms
  • 1+ year experience with AI platforms such as Microsoft Azure AI or similar cloud-based AI services
  • Experience with Azure IaaS including virtual machines, storage, networking and PaaS including app services, Azure SQL, Azure functions and Azure data factory
  • Knowledge of identity management, security controls, compliance and encryption
  • Experience explaining complex concepts to both non-technical and technical teams
  • Solid understanding of DNS, LAN, WAN, firewalls, file systems and IAM
  • Experience with Linux and Microsoft Windows server environments
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence or ServiceNow
  • Experience with PowerShell
  • Knowledge in Octopus Deploy and Ansible is preferred

Job Duties

  • Develop, implement and maintain scalable Cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure platform
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their cloud requirements and design effective solutions
  • Provide technical expertise and support troubleshooting cloud related issues and performance bottlenecks
  • Recommend Cloud & AI-based solutions, document and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Design and manage scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure and automation tooling for routine operation tasks
  • Deploy enterprise scaled cloud resources that can be used across technology organizations using code
  • Be the contact to business application owners and build bridge between them and the cloud team
  • Follow security audit requirements and controls in every action
  • Implement and suggest strategies in Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, develop tooling and associated processes for using automated, faster, efficient, and consistent error-free deployments
  • Participate in team activities such as peer code reviews, design collaboration efforts and rotating on-call process
  • Use configuration management and automated deployment tools to provide cloud-based solutions and services ensuring best practices
  • Work with solution architects, tech leads and partners to confirm developed solutions align with existing standards, meet security controls and meet cloud computing best practices
  • Manage implementations and ongoing operation of cloud services following approved designs, adherence to patterns, security requirements and certify all logging and monitoring are active for security and compliance
  • Investigate and monitor current-state cloud usage, solutions in use, risks, gaps, limitations and recommend solutions, optimizations and remediation
  • Provide international and 24/7 support through on-call duties and/or working a flexible off-hours schedule for planned and unplanned maintenance
