About the Role: The position of Counter I reports directly to the store manager and plays a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the retail store. This role requires flexibility to perform any or all duties of a general store staff member, including the use of a company vehicle to deliver or pick up parts and merchandise from customers and vendors efficiently. Key responsibilities revolve around providing excellent customer service in a retail environment by managing customer interactions, handling merchandise, and processing transactions accurately. Counter I representatives greet customers promptly, answer inquiries about product price, availability, and function, and facilitate smooth purchasing experiences by creating invoices, accepting payments, and providing correct change.
In addition to the front-end duties, this role involves significant organizational tasks such as stocking shelves, setting up promotional displays, pricing merchandise, and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the store and its premises. The individual is expected to comply fully with all safety regulations and company policies while presenting a professional and approachable image at all times. This position demands commitment to punctuality, a positive attitude towards company goals and values, and an active participation in ongoing training sessions. Candidates must be capable of thriving in a high-paced retail atmosphere and demonstrate strong communication and basic math skills. Additional responsibilities include performing custodial duties such as sweeping, dusting, and organizing stock areas and restocking restrooms as needed. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- completed ASE counterman I training course
- meets all requirements to qualify for inclusion on AOC Approved Driver List
- must successfully complete background and criminal history checks
- must pass physical, human performance evaluation and drug test
- ability to read and write in English
- must maintain regular and prompt attendance
- must be able to follow oral and written instructions
- basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- ability to work well with others and assist customers cooperatively and courteously
- good understanding of and adherence to company policies and procedures
- attitude that supports the company’s goals and values
- exemplary company work record including attendance
- ability to work in a high paced busy atmosphere
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- completed ASE counterman I training course
- meets all requirements for inclusion on AOC Approved Driver List
- related experience in the auto parts industry preferred
- ability to work well with others and assist customers cooperatively and courteously
- must be able to work in a high-paced busy atmosphere
- must be able to follow oral and written instructions
- must have basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- ability to read and write in English
- good understanding of and adherence to company policies and procedures

Job Duties
- Greet each customer in a timely manner and answer the telephone within three rings
- answer customer questions regarding price, availability and function of merchandise
- obtain and invoice merchandise for customers
- ensure outstanding customer service with friendly environment and solid product knowledge
- total price and tax on merchandise purchased
- accept payment and make change
- wrap or bag merchandise for customers
- correctly place any special orders
- balance cash drawer at end of shift if necessary
- stock shelves, counters or tables with merchandise
- set up advertising displays or arrange merchandise to promote sales
- mark price on merchandise
- bag or box orders accordingly
- ensure outgoing transfers are processed properly and timely
- clean shelves, counters or tables
- maintain safe and clean work environment complying with all safety procedures
- perform custodial duties including sweeping, dusting, organizing merchandise and cleaning restrooms
- present a good company image through proper dress and attitude
- participate in and complete company-sponsored training
- attend training or use electronic media to increase product knowledge
- perform other duties as directed by management
- maintain grounds and parking lot
- maintain satisfactory attendance record and appearance
